Wow JT really stretching for publicity? Bad enough to see this in a 7-11. No thanks. Lets put women up display like animals, cool. Just in keeping with the objectification of women as pleasure things as per video game. Which one is it JT?

Spudman, I don't think thew women on the pole is complaining. Classy picture though. I do tell folks at home that most Japanese are not the geeky, suited up folks many think they are. This picture....

How little you know. I was there last night and there were hundreds of people watching this performance, more women than men, I would say. Pole dancing is gaining in popularity. There are dance studios and dance studios that specialize in it and many girls do it for exercise and fun.
I enjoyed watching the performance and there is no objectification of women as pleasure things, as you call it. It's just a performance, nothing more.

Alright, give spudman a break! Yes, no one forced her up the pole, but money does play a part in her getting up there. From what I can see this is just what most have already said, entertainment. I think what spudman is referring to is the more scantly clad pole dancers, and Japan is not the only place this happens, however it may be one of the most tasteless place. Exploitation of women in this country is the norm until a prominent group of people step up and demand a stop to it. Until then it’s anyone right to choose to participate or go elsewhere.

Spudman, this is not a striptease. I've taken a poll dancing lesson, too. It's a highly athletic, art form.

There is nothing sexually suggestive about the dance. I didn't find it titillating at all. This pole dancer's outfit isn't even revealing. I watched it in much the same way as I would watch acrobats or trapeze artists at a circus. My girlfriend loved the performance, as did all the other girls there last night.
I understand that some people find it objectionable. They are the same people who object to beauty contests, girls adorning cars at auto shows, race queens at F-1 races and so on. But if you really feel disturbed by such performances, then I suggest the problem lies with you. You need to ask yourself what it is deep down that bothers you.

Again, syndenham, it's her choice...or are you and spudman really saying that women are so stupid that they cannot take responsibility for their own actions? That's what it sounds like, 'this society exploits women'. It looks very much like women making choices on their own. They needn't be the choices you prefer to be 'right'.

I assure you I do have red blood. Perhaps I'm a little older than you. I might have been drooling when I was college age but now, as I said before, I tend to view these performances as dancing, or like circus trapeze acts.
On the other hand, I did mention to my girlfriend about the possibility of installing one of those poles in my livingroom.

Hey, more power to her if that's how she wants to be viewed. I just didn't know that dressing like a prostitute made you an artist, or that pole dancing was really Chinese acrobatics, or that you could put lipstick on a pig a call it something other than a pig.
