I don't know what to think!

It is about as out of context as saying 'Happy AIDS Day!'

It is about as out of context as saying 'Happy AIDS Day!'

As Charlie Sheen once said: "My city, my gas."

Hachiko is where a lot of young people congregate.

The ribbon is a useful reminder to rubber up and, as Sheen reminds us, HIV is still an equal opportunities, incurable disease.

Not Hachiko, Hachikou. stress in kou. Kou is not part of name just like san after people's name.

@SNSC - I'm surely Charlie Sheen would approve of the positive message...

I think it's a stupid idea having the statue of a dog as a reminder of AIDS day -- sends a lot of weird messages -- but as one commenter pointed out the statue is in a location with a lot of young people and is easily visible, so whatever.

"Mummy, why is Hachiko-chan wearing a red ribbon?"

"It's for World AIDS Day, darling."

"What's World AIDS, mummy?"

"AIDS is, um (how can I explain this to a five year old?), it's like when people get sick."

"Like catching a cold?"

"Yes, yes, like catching a cold."

"Has daddy got AIDS, mummy?"

"I don't think so, darling. Why do you ask?"

"He kept sneezing this morning and he's wearing a mask."

As a dog owner, I can assure you that one animal which never engages in wanton, casual, all-willy-nilly sex with anything either animate or not - well, that would not be a dog.

And just in case anybody thought about running off with the ribbon, they've padlocked it around Hachiko's left foreleg.

That is not what Hachiko is for.

It may be unorthodox but there's not a lot of public health services that people use in Japan until its too late, so Hachiko-mae station where everyone meets to and from Shibuya is probably a safe enough use case as any

I can vision a monkey for this but not a dog.

Hachiko had AIDS?
