Gautama Buddha was God of the Buddhist religion. There has been much debate of Buddha's birthplace and the truth is Siddhartha Gautama was born in Kapilvastu Lumbini, a town situated in modern day Nepal but clearly not in India. One night he sat under the Bodhi tree, and meditated until dawn. He purified his mind of all defilements and attained enlightenment thus earning the title Buddha or the "Enlightened One." For the remainder of his life the Buddha preached the Dharma in an effort to help other sentients reach enlightenment.

Gautama was not a God neither were nor will ever be any other Buddha.
