Reminds me of the extreme machines in the world's large open-air coal mines.

Impressive. I've seen that picture many times on the TV and wondered how the heck they would move it. I'm guessing similar technology would be used to move the other ship that landed on top of a tall building.

The one that landed on the top of the building is inland, so this crane is of no use for that.

an 800 ton ship is not large - it is a tuna boat.

I think they got the boat off the building last week, had to use two cranes to do it. This picture is incredible, amazing to see the scale of the recovery efforts.

Interesting how they colour code the lifting hooks making one red, one blue, one yellow and one green. I figure that must be for the "lift angle adjustments" needed when picking up something huge which this crane was built to do. Hmmm, bait those hooks and catch some BIG FISHY!!!

Great job to Japan engineers and technologies. Only Japanese could probably do this! Great photograph.

No. The Koreans and the Chinese certainly could. So could the Dutch, the Germans and the Swedes. The Russians and the Yanks quite probably could too.

Impressive photo. I heard someone say TV that actually a crane barge was swept out into the ocean by the tsunami, and they only found it recently. Wonder if it was this one. Wow.

The picture tells us that the Japanese are the only ones doing it. I trust the geyser on the other side of the boat can now get past on his bike

When we see a ship like that washed up on the shores, it really does make one wonder, but to see the equipment in revover it is even more amazing.

More giant crane lifts are mobilized to this area to finish the clear-up before the reconstruction starts.
