Very cute. Pity the poor kids that got to play the part of the bonbori and the byobu.

They're doing it very well, mind.

Cleo - What's wrong with playing the bonbori and the byobu? Can't be any worse than playing the Sun, which I was forced to do in elementary school.

Kids playing the part of the bonbori and byobu? Where? Perhaps I need another cup of coffee but I just don't see them...

Sarge - The costumes must be awfully restricting, don't you think? Yu can't even see any eye-holes.
USNinJapan2 - Maybe they're playing their parts so well they've tricked you into thinking they're real bonbori and byobu.... I suggest another three cups of coffee.
:-)
It is Monday morning, folks.

Are those kids in the front row the coloured mochi treats, or some sort of sakuramochi ?

My wife, daughter, and I went around to the parent-in-law's yesterday to celebrate Girl's Day (yes, a bit early).
I'm seeing a definite pattern in hallowed Japanese festivals now...the recurring theme of Girl's Day, hanami, New Year's Day, you name it - seems to be:
1/ eat truckloads of food
2/ get tanked.
Pretty much each Japanese celebration seems to be 1/ amd 2/ (above) with a different name slapped on it, ha ha

My Japanese colleague said she never got married because her parents never decorate those hina dolls in the house.....don't know how far this is true, but I felt sorry for her. She's 55 and still living with her parents, and her Mother cooks her lunch bento everyday...:)
