College students attend job seminars at Mynavi Global Career’s job fair held at Prism Hall in Tokyo on Tuesday. Some 49 companies and 3,000 college students are participating in the two-day job fair. Organizers said while the number of participating companies has decreased from 80 to 49, more students are attending the job fair than last year. The latest report by the Ministry of Labor, Health and Welfare says 331 students have had job offers canceled nationwide amid the global financial crisis.

Job fairs are scary or any huge gathering...the air is full of arrogance and competition.

I'm sure they'll be great at handing out tissues.

And I've heard about companies purporting 'recruiting' at such fairs but in fact have no intention of hiring anyone - but the local city has said the companies need to appear to keep up appearances.

Atleast they are inside a hall, others are on the streets protesting in front of "fragile giants" like Isuzu, Matsuda, Canon etc....

The companies could also consider some western management tactics. Firing old workers and hiring cheap college grads.

I guess that red carpet is needed to make the scene a little more cheerful. Always thought the ubiquitous old black suit was a little depressing, but it will be even more so for the next few years.
