Picture expired.

College students from vocational schools in Tokyo punch the air with their fists during a ceremony to launch their job-hunting in Tokyo on Tuesday. See story here.

better prospects from a vocational school

sf2k -- incorrect. Actually, this year vocational school grads had only like a 45% job rate, while high school grads had around 70%. Given that, I don't know what they are cheering about. Especially since they are all forced to wear the same outfit -- black suit and white shirt. Talk about making yourself inter-changeable.

They are in same colored suits. Will they compete against each others in within-colors?

    Yeah, 7-11!

There`s a ceremony to launch job-hunting now??! I thought the whole pomp and circumstance around Kindergarten "graduation" was ridiculous, but THIS takes Best Ceremoniest.

Note: If the most recent school on your resume contains a "専門" in the name, you best save up for that Yaki-Imo truck and learn how to drive reeeaaaal slow.

Yay, work. Your happiness wont last long. Well thats of course if you find your dreamjob. heh. Nice picture.

What lens did they use to take this, a fisheye? Because it looks horribly distorted, especially on the righthand side.

Let's see how air-punchingly happy they are when they find out that they still haven't found a job this time next year...

apparently in japan, if you act really super excited about something, it dulls the pain of reality, and you can even lose all sense of irony.

If one of those kids starts his own plumbing business empire, they are all good.

Good luck to 'em...here comes the real world.

Probably a very high % of them will stay at home depending on mummy, so they can play video games all day and read comics every night.

I think I would celebrate AFTER I got a job.

The one guy in the middle at the top of the picture looks thrilled to be there.

The only realist in a mob of idiots.

I wish them all the best in their efforts, I really do...

Actually, I think you'll find many senmongakusei's with skills in IT, design and other specialist jobs have much better chances of finding jobs than those kids stuck in university for 4 years studying English literature.

Unless you work for yourself or really, really like your line of work, then a job just means selling your life away piece by piece for the right to stay alive.

Nothing in front of these boys except "lives of quiet desperation".

My my, what a bunch of negative people we have on JT. Nothing wrong with a bit of optimism. Hang in there, job hunters.
