    Not into super bikes rather give me the new CB1100 or a nice Shadow/Steed or a Dragstar.

    400cc are good for in town commutes though.

    He is trying a CB400... pretty much the standard mid-size (and mid-range priced) bike, nothing exotic. You get to ride those when you take the Chugata test in Samezu. Nice, well-designed bike though.

    I'm glad they're solidly attached to the floor (looks like it, anyway). With any Joe Tanaka coming in and sitting on them I could just imagine people toppling over and braking limbs if not.

    used CB 400s are everywhere - great little workhorse bikes. very easy to find one in decent shape with all the papers for 25man out the door. or less. might pay a little more for the bol d'or version, but not much. check goobike - tons of them on there.

    Thanks for the advice guys. Wouldn`t want anything much bigger than 400 in Japan anyway. Not many places to open it up here.

    when you have restriction of 50 km/h in the city and 80 km/h on the highway, it doesn't really worth to buy a fast bike in Japan. except circuits, but those are far. I have a Yamaha 250cc, and it's perfect for Tokyo.

    My son is restoring a '78 CB400A right now. Nice beginner bike. Good chrome, polishing right up. The 250 is nice for in town but the guys on the 600s around Hakone are a hoot to watch. Too fast for me! But then again, some of them do apply for Darwin awards. Saw one guy sideswipe a bus once. Not pretty.

    Everyone says that. I said it. Then you discover the thousands of km of winding seaside roads, the secondary mountain passes, and frankly all of Hokkaido. And then there's trackday, if you really want to open it up.

    400 is good. You can have a lot of fun on a 400. A 400 will carry you anywhere you want to go in Japan with a smile on your face... but you'll always find yourself wanting a little more.
