KitKat ticket

Comedian Ken Shimura (standing, 2nd left), showing his trademark gesture, sumo grand champion Hakuho and TV announcer Akira Fukuzawa (standing at far right) pose with children from the Sanriku area of Iwate Prefecture, as well as Sanriku Railway and Nestle Japan officials (photo below) at Tokyo Tower during an event to promote a special KitKat train ticket. The 190-yen KitKat ticket, which goes on sale June 16, is good for use on the railway which fully resumed operations in April after being hit by the tsunami in March 2011. Part of the proceeds from ticket sales will go toward helping the area rebuild.

Doesn't this look like a Japanese version of the much critiscised "quenelle"?? don't let the Western media loose on it!!

showing his trademark gesture

One of the things I always found fascinating about Japan -- that a "comedian" could be so popular, and people find hysterical, things like a gesture, a facial contorsion or the like. Maybe it is appropriate that this picture is showing so many children.

There have been one or two comedians in Japan who were moderately interesting.

Unfortunately, Shimura Ken (pathetic individual) and Beat Takeshi (psychotic) are not amongst them.

I'd like to know how much of the 190 yen ticket goes to the very worthy cause of helping the Tohoku area rebuild.

I would also like to know why the Tokyo Government budgets so little for this.

Not worth it?

Very few votes?

As far as demented Japanese tv shows go, I kinda' miss the ol' Shibura' Ken show being on ( never saw it the last time I was in Japan for a year ), but I have to ask, WHY is that guy Saluting in the third picture, and is it just a coincidence that it appears the old WWII flag appears on that book cover ?

Hakuho, doing a pro job lifting spirits as well as his fellow rikishi. Main story is that the rail line is repaired, surely a relief for the locals. Cute, but not sure what KitKat has to do with this.

Thanks, roosterman77, for the kitto katsu/good luck connection. That would explain it. I love Kit Kat, btw.
