Movie star PM REUTERS/Toru Hanai

Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama and his wife Miyuki walk the green carpet ahead of the opening ceremony of the 22nd Tokyo International Film Festival at Roppongi Hills. Hatoyama got more cheers from the crowds than any of the visiting or Japanese stars. In keeping with the festival’s ecological theme of “Action for Earth,” the green carpet was made of recycled PET bottles. The ceremony was followed by the world premiere of ‘‘Oceans,’’ a French documentary about the marine world, as well as a footage screening of U.S. science fiction movie ‘‘Avatar’’ for the first time in the world, with Sigourney Weaver and Sam Worthington on hand.

I wonder whether the green ribbon accessories are made of recycled PET botles too?

  • josesensei at 09:00 PM JST - 17th October

maybe the green ribbons are made of those little bento green bits that are supposed to fool you into thinking they are real leaves

Green carpet is truly original! It symbolize walking on grass. This should be the norm for future events.

  • Sarge at 09:36 PM JST - 17th October

Green carpet may be original, but it's not as elegant as a red carpet.

They really look stylish, maybe they should consider starring in movies too later.

What? You mean to say that her Venusian friends didn't teleport her straight into her seat inside the buiding...?

I'm not a big fan of pearls, but I do like how the dress was cut. The skill it takes to cut on the bias and make it look good, I admire the understandings of the dressmaker. I love the old fashioned skills in tailoring, the ones that are hard won.

Fabulous first couple of Japan, very nice. Why PM's one hand looks pale yellow, other hand looks healthy pink while her both hands have the same color? Red carpet is better, more class, richer.
