I remember my climb up Fuji too - great experience, which I want to do again. Word of advice: Climb in proper footwear and WITHOUT an ingrown toenail.

Bad memories from seeing this photo!
I have a few pictures just like it. Can't believe 7 years have zoomed by since I climbed Fuji. As I'm not a fool, I'll never do it again as long as I live! Hee hee!

"Climb in proper footwear"
Excellent advice. No sneakers like I wore. Also, no baseball hats or light jackets like I wore! You need a heavy winter coat with a hood, a wool cap and Thinsulate gloves! And you'll need 800 yen for your Cup Ramen at the top!

Climb? Maybe a walk but not a climb, my 60 year old mother in law does it all the time...

****Never climbed Fujisan but tried some volcanic yama with a group of young non-smokers. I was over 60. After the first quarter mile, breathing sulphur fumes, my main goal was getting back to my Ofuro.
Can't remember the mountain name. The only thing of interest I saw were a few scattered, wild Rhododendren and blue berry bushes.
A few days later I lifted the nails off my big toes. They had tried to punch their way out of my canvas shoes.
Folk ain't got no business in those pristine places.

nice pictures. reminded me of how painful my knee was this July 27th. The going down part was painful, but I have a pre-existing knee injury

hmmm the descent was the poor part iirc, nothing to get worked up about. I was working as a sankyaku-mochi at the time and me the other gopher decided enough of the slow pedestrian pace and broke from the line and made our own more direct line....whoossshhhh!

Nippon5 - After you've climbed Fuji, you won't call it a walk, no matter how many times your mother-in-law has climbed it. By the way, has she not heard "Only a fool climbs Fuji twice"?

Can anyone tell me what is the last day of the year you can climb Mt. Fuji?
kjunluc2 at 05:29 AM JST - 28th September
If you're a real mountain climber 31 December is the last day of the year you can climb Fuji.
TeruSensei at 07:23 AM JST - 28th September
And if you're not a real mountain climber, 31 December is a fine day to die :P

If I want to line up, I can go to the lottery window. Thank god there are no moutains like this here in Hokkaido.

Ive climbed real mountains(you know with out a path to walk up on), and Ive walked Fuji... She goes with a group and they do it once a month... Dont ask me I like to actually see stuff and be challenged when I go to the mountains..
