I'm impressed. A little saddened, but impressed all the same!

I am very impressed by these new mamacharlies - low-slung so well-balanced, two safe seats, and often electric assisted. Nothing like these existed when my college-age kids were young. They're expensive but worth it.

No common sense, hope her kids are at least raised properly.

2 ( +9 / -8 )

Looks expensive as it is an assisted one.

Noting she has shopping hanging from the handlebar, illegal to hang stuff there.

This morning on the wide show they a good report about the new police enforcement for bicycles that come into effect from June 1st. What gets looked out for, fines, pumishmenty, etc.

Would like to see JT cover this topic in detaol., as ignorance if the law is not an excuse.

Maybe change the subtitle to "a multitasking mama illegally rides along in Tokyo’s Nishi-Azabu district on Thursday."

In Japan it is illegal to ride with a anything hanging off your handle bars and talk on your mobile phone at the same time.

Marcelito.

Reason why I got myself a wireless Bluetooth headset, very cheap now and legal compared to headphones and using a keitai while riding.

She should be ticketed for child-abuse for riding while talking on the cell phone, that is so dangerous to be looking and talking on her cell than looking at the road ahead.

Looks dangerous, i would prefer new mama (with chirashi) riding an old type mamachari :)

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

You mean the pavement, wonder if she sticks to the 10km speed limit for the sections where bicycles can share with pedestrians. She should be on the road(30km) limit.

BTW, the new rules are easier for kids under 14 and Pensioners

It's a nice picture (but maybe a bit unfair to post a pic of what appears to be someone doing something illegal without getting her side of the story first?)

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Her Story.

I don't the law, riding in the road is too scary and dangerous.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

One wrong turn and Dads a widower, think about it please

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Yes, and makes breaking the Law OK?

i really hate it when people use their phones while riding a bicycle, but this woman takes the cake because she's endangering her son. at least he has a helmet. he's gonna need it with a mom like that.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

It's fine to talk on the phone and ride a bike in Japan as long as you are very, very serious about the conversation you are having. She's doing a great job!

0 ( +4 / -4 )

How many times have you been hit or nearly hit by a bicycle in Japan !?

4 ( +6 / -3 )

But she's 'ganbatteiru'-ing, and for a mama everything is so 'taihen'... those trump everything.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

at least the kid is wearing a helmet.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

glad to see the kids have helmets, but then its almost trumped by her talking on the phone!?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Very photogenic, but yet very dangerous. Seems to run the risk of a traffic accident.

Please be careful, mama-san!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

pretty impressive considering it's raining.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

If by multitasking you mean putting her children in danger by her absolutely ignorant actions.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Some of you don't notice that there is a kid up front too.

Get off the phone woman! or pull over and talk....

Exactly. Japanese side walks are way too narrow and crowded for this kind of nonsense. She is a danget to herself, her kids, and others. Nothing "noble" about her actions in any way.

Got hit and ended up falling into a hedge at the side of the pavement. A little bow and the rider just kept going. Muppet.

really multitasking, was she also chatting on mobile phone? looks like it though from the picture.....ahahaha real multi-tasking....she only needs one more task ---> holding umbrella, to complete a perfect multi-tasking, I suppose....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Circus must be in town...all she needs is a ball to balance on top of an umbrella

japanese woman is the strongest human being in the world. they do almost the same at 80. no helmet. is it that japanese like to take more risks than other humans? do they have more accidents than other humans? i think not.

Look, mom's work is never done. She's being very practical. the kids ( and teddy bear) look safe to me. can you imagine her working at a large company? she would advance to corporate chief quickly!

You know, sometimes there aren't two sides to a story. Stop the bike to talk on the phone. In all likelihood, it was a call she could have returned later anyway.

TakahiroDomingoMAY. 28, 2015 - 11:30PM JST japanese woman is the strongest human being in the world.

Really? Maybe the most put upon. But the majority, should they choose to marry, endure mostly First World problems. Otherwise, I think mothers in the Gaza Strip have it over them in daily challenges.

So she's got her neck crimped to the side to hold the phone between her cheek and shoulder and if something pops up, in order to prevent the phone from dropping, I'm assuming she's going to use her left hand to catch the phone. The left side incidentally has the shopping bag and the weight, so the bike will veer to the left...Nothing cute or impressive about this. Child endangerment...

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I think most people here didn't realize that she actually have two kids on this bicycle. There is a smaller child in the front wearing a bike helmet also. Her actions even make this situation even more dangerous.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She is on the phone. That is illegal. So is riding holding an umbrella by the way.
