Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, right, holds a jersey presented to him by members of Japan's rugby national team, at his official residence in Tokyo on Wednesday. Players, from left to right, are Ayumu Goromaru, Shota Horie and captain Michael Leitch. Japan won three pool games at the Rugby World Cup in England, kicking it all off with the biggest upset ever, against two-time champion South Africa. Abe said he'll try goal-kicker Goromaru's unique pre-kick pose (photo below) next time he has to concentrate in the Diet.

Good on japan for getting so far this time.
Shonanftw, as I understand it the majority non japanese born nationals have been in japan for quite a while and call it home, I have no issue with them playing for the country.
My issue is, Abe and his type are generally anti-immigration and suggest that intergration with people of other nations is "difficult"' and have fairly poor support compared to many other counties as far as protection by law for non-citizens but when it suits thier purpose they are happy to jump on the bandwagon.

Bandwagon? Hop aboard!

Bread and circuses. Makes me ill to see politicians using sports for self promotion, and knowing the suckers of the population are falling for it.

I wonder how the captain fits into Abe's vision of a beautiful country.

Hopefully someone from the diet will use it to drop-kick Abe out of politics altogether.

A well educated, well spoken Japanese citizen who has made a massive contribution to Japan internationally and at home, and become a role model for young athletes?
I think "perfectly" is the answer you're looking for.

Although I wish you were right, I find it highly doubtful Abe thinks the same way.

I think Japan rugby is doing just fine as they are. They definitely don't need disruption

It must have been a very long time since a Japan rugby team went to visit the Prime Minister. Great to see rugby's profile on a high.
