  They don't seem to be following the new summer clothing guideline. I think salarywomen were happy for the change but less salarymen seem to have taken up the change and continue with white shirts and dark trousers.

  And what's up with the rolled up long sleeves? The short sleeves look so much neater than the rolled up long sleeves. If I was in charge, I'd make it illegal to roll up long sleeves. Good grief, if you're going to wear long sleeves, wear 'em properly and button the cuffs!

  Serrano - Although Japanese summers are a bit hot to wear long sleeves rolled up, it's a much more distinguished and masculine look than short sleeved dress shirts. Guys wearing these look just a few years removed from junior high school

  hoserfella, Serrano beat me to it. Thanks for the laugh. Using the words masculine and distinquished to describe Japanese salarymen is truly hilarious. These guys think about 5 seconds thinking about their "look" -- in a whole year. They wear whatever their wife buys them and everyone else in the office wears. Wouldn't want to be the only mate at the izakaya without the rolled up, wrinkled white shirt, with just one button un-buttoned at the neck, and grey slacks. You'd be the nail that gets hammered down.

  I don't see it like that. If I buy a long sleeve shirt I can roll up the sleeves in summer and down in winter. I have very sensitive skin being a previous red head. Outdoors my skin burns quickly so I can roll my sleeves down outdoors and up indoors.

  Serrano - Like I said, the Japanese summer and its humidity is a different animal, but when it cools down and I have a choice, its a long sleeved shirt rolled up. If you think the junior high school look is cooler, well, have at it. (Do I also have to add the hahaha or LOL to show my disapproval? Is that a rule now? I just can't keep up with you teens these days) herefornow - I agree that salarymen here in their $150 suits could care less about being fashionable, I wasnt talking about them although it's possible for them to look better given the chance.

  That's just the drab sarariman wear they all dress in. I agree with the short sleeve comment - they look nasty, and like you should be in school or as a coach driver in Outback Australia. I wore thin fabric long sleeves during the brutal J summers I experienced.

  t's the norm. And IMHO, it still looks more stylish than a typical scene at Ogilvie Transportation Centre in Chicago in summer where you see proportionately more obese people dressed in typical tan chinos and a beat up polo shirt, or fat women in spandex leggings....
