Palestinian school children fly kites to show solidarity with the Japanese people, near the Japan-funded housing project in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, on Monday. The event was organized by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to mark the fourth anniversary of the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami that killed thousands and set off a nuclear crisis in Japan.

Nice. Let's hope those kids and kids everywhere can sleep safely tonight.

Rather ironic seeing as Japan doesn't even recognize the existence of the Palestinian state. If the Japanese government were to rewrite the caption, it would read: 'Stateless school children fly kites to show solidarity with the Japanese people'

Japan supports a two-state solution whereby Israel and a future independent Palestinian state live side by side in peace and security. Japan has continued support for the Palestinians' right of self-determination, and their desire to establish a state.

UNRWA is another total UN waste of time and money.

@bjohnson23: Show some humanity, these people are suffering far worse than anyone in Japan.. I'm glad that Japan is an active contributor to raising the lives, even if only a little, for the real sufferers of this world

This awareness raising and mutual support is important to understand others' suffering and grief. It would also be great if Japanese children fly kites on July 8th to show solidarity with the Palestinian people on the date of the first anniversary of the Israeli attack on Gaza that killed and wounded thousands of people, including many women and children.

I don't see many kites in this photo.

Actually, if you look carefully, you can see quite a few of them. Some are on the ground and were probably in the process of being flown when the photo was taken. I think I see one with a Japanese flag design in the lower middle of the photo.

Anyway, it is nice to see this kind of photo.
