For what?

There's a Democrat in the news, so MarkG - does he even have a job? - needs to rush in and spew.

Proof that there are no longer good people who are politically conservative: exhibit #1 billion.

According to Wikipedia, "The [Order of the Rising Sun] is awarded to those who have made distinguished achievements in the following fields: international relations, promotion of Japanese culture, advancements in their field, development in welfare or preservation of the environment."

I would be curious to know on what basis she won the award.

She has been critical of Abe's position on the comfort women in the recent past, so she obviously didn't win it for catering to Japan's nationalist element.

. . . She got it for her significant contribution to "strengthening and deepening" US / Japan relationship and for visiting Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. No big deal.

The info was on the US Embassy's website.

Currently the US and Japan seem in some kind of honeymoon.

Alex, Japan doesn't really have many friends in East Asia. Abe would never give that award to a politician from korea or china.

@Wc626: Asia isn't only Korea and China. Anyway, this "honeymoon" with the US is one of the reasons why Japanese relations with China are so tense.

Currently the US and Japan seem in some kind of honeymoon.

After taking their second vows. The first was a shot-gun wedding. Now, we are meeting much more as equals, and I am very happy about that.

I love the Japanese people. They have all the foibles and greatness of humanity. And I think it high-time for Japan and the Us to come together on a much more equal footing.

DanMan. Funny, but somehow I can't help but agree. I've not always admired their restlessness, but I've always respected it. And, let's face it, they make some really cool sh&*%. And they deserve a better government then they got, but that must be said for most peoples on this rock!

One thing: I do not get the feeling that Japan has really committed to the US/Japan alliance. I feel the conservative elite who run that island chain do it for themselves, and if things were different, then they'd be different. If you see what I mean. Sure, "Britain has no allies; only interests" and all that. But I can't help but feel we actually believe in our 'friendship."

Curtis Lemay, Mr. Bombs Away-Responsible for the burning of Japan-Let's bomb (the Vietnamese) back to the Stone Age, yes, that Air Force General Curtis Lemay also received this Award, also Sepp Blatter, yes, that current president of FIFA who Euro football leaders demand be removed from his post-Sepp Blatter.

This Award doesn't have the most illustrious company.

This woman is such anti-Japan and pro-South Korea that some people call her a white Korean. She led the Congress resolution that demand Japan apologize. It seems that US is colonizing Japan.

Haha! She expressed hope that Abe would apologize for the sex-slaves, and in the right wingers' minds, that makes her anti-Japan and pro-Korean.

That shows the low intelligence of the right-wingers. They'll condemn someone as an enemy of the state for expressing a counter opinion on a single issue, rather than looking at the person overall.

It seems that Abe wants to be a puppy pet of the US(Obama) rather than it colonizes Japan.

One corrupt politician stroking the ego of another corrupt politician. It has nothing to do with the US/Japan relationship or even the peace park in Hiroshima. Pelosi has been one to vote favorably on bills in the US Congress affecting trade with Japan and Japanese interests. Abe is simply patting her on the head and saying, "Good girl."

What citation of Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun says about the contribution of Nancy Pelosi too should have been displayed for the information of the readers.

Abe is obviously looking out for himself after he is out of office. He needs as many business and political connections as he can get. Or he may be asking for lenient treatment after he crosses the border from Mexico into California.

Every day with a photo of Abe-san is a good day.

Rather a shallow opinion. Seems the democrats take to insults to defend like a spoiled child. The caption says she won the award, makes no mention for what reason? After all, she is quite controversial.

My comment about the honeymoon was ironic, anyway.
