Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) from Ichinoseki City and the adjacent town of Hiraizumi take part in rice field planting on Sunday at the Honedera Village Estate in Iwate Prefecture. Should quit the ALT gig and become a farmer, more money and fewer kids. Cuz on that ALT salary what you plant is all you can afford to eat.

Huh, I thought this ALT farce was scrapped 2 years ago because of its total ineffectiveness and waste of tax payers' money?? I am surprised to see this caption and picture.

@umbrella. I think it depends on the city. My own boys' ALTs have been great and the students like them. They get involved in many aspects of school life, not just the English classroom e.g. ceremonies, sports, etc. Whether or not the students' English levels have increased, I don't know.
