sarcasm123...I respond to your most recent rant, but tkoind2 has already done so (Thanks). And very eloguently as well. I particularly like his question of you: "how about offering something constructive yourself?" A point I have made many times as well. One thing he overlooked, however, was to mention that JT is not the only "news" source here in Japan that will run this picture -- as you well know. If it were, companies would not spend the millions of yen needed to hire these celebs and host the press conference. They know it will get mass exposure. That was my point, and your smarta@@ reply does not make it any less valid. have a good weekend.

Er... it would be nice if we could actually see the jewelry. Then maybe it would be a story (LMFAO)

The person on the left doesn't even look Japanese.

with all the rants and raves here, all i can say is "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

Sarcasm123, news worthy or not it is good to see models and pageants who are well respected in Japanese society get blogged on an accessible media, isn't it? I mean how often would you walk down Shibuya, see a girl, and be able to truly say that one's a gold and the other's not. Knowing how these model citizens dress, knowing how they are involved, knowing how they are perceived helps us readers understand at least how poor and disgraceful the girls you see in shibuya are, doesn't it?

this is my first ever rant here, and all in all JT seems to be a real good resource in putting current issues in Japan in perspective of an part-american reader. kudos to JT.

    because she's not 'really' Japanese.

Why Japanese girls are so beautiful? Because of beauty of Tokyo city (i.e. modernized & civilized).

So that's why so many have moved there.

Personally, if they're not wearing pleated skirts, forget it.

Have they absolutely no ability to check the normal Japanese news in papers or on television?

Hey everybody! Look! Sarx can read Japanese! Isn't she special? And she hardly ever mentions it, either.

I can honestly say I've rattled a sight worse than either of these two fillies, but I certainly wouldn't be splashing out 4 million yen on a bauble. Never seen the point of platinum at all. Why spend more than you'd pay for gold on something that looks like silver?

But where's Riyo Mori? I'd certainly splash out a fair wad on her.

Some people here are incredible. They see this picture and somehow think this is THE news of the day in Japan?? Have they absolutely no ability to check the normal Japanese news in papers or on television? You will have a hard time finding this news in it. This "news", my dear boys, belongs under trivia and not more than that. I don't know why some here keep confusing it with front page news, but it says a lot about their intelligence

I have no idea wtf you are babbling about, who said it was front page news? where?

I think these ladies should stick to a natural hair color. I do not understand why so many Asians would want to change their hair color. In my opinion, Ms. Chibana, is the better looking of the two. It looks as if Ms. Mori has changed the shape of her eyes. I agree she does not look Japanese but what do I know.

"I do not understand why so many Asians would want to change their hair color"

The answer is easy: they're bored with black. The same reason women everywhere dye their hair, to change their looks. In Japan it's now boring to see so many women and men with their hair dyed actually. I don't know for sure but someone mentioned Mori is of mixed heritage, which might explain the shape of her eyes.

Izumi Mori is half American, her mother being an American fashion model. And after watching the video, I'd say she's obviously veru good looking, although she's typcally model-skinny. http://japansugoi.com/wordpress/izumi-mori-and-cheetah-video/

You dont know much. I have an aunt that is pure Japanese that looks a lot like Ms.Mori, but just a little older. Japanese people come in many different shapes, sizes, figures, etc... including eye shape.

So what if she changes her hair color. Ashley Judd has done it, Nicole Richie does it, J-Lo does it, and pretty much any chick you see in an American mall has done it. RELAX SEABISCUIT!

Please educate yourself about Japan/Japanese people before you make rediculous comments.

    k-thanks!

    @OhioDonna

hopefully I didn't put it as bluntly as some, but I can understand why Westerners think that the Japanese are better looking in their natural usually black hair, it suits them and it's shinier. Although some Japanese claim to have natural lighter hair (and some even dye it black!) and yes, their features are varied if you get a closer look. Anyway I would have liked to see that jewelry more closely.

Not a very complimentary photo really, but the left one is a bit scary. She also looks a bit too skeletal for me.
