Popcorn line

I am so sorry....

Is the place any good? If it is anything like egg's n things (harajuku) its all hype and pretty disappointing flavor.

Lining up for popcorn, lining up for french fries, lining up for pancakes -- people's priorities are completely out of whack.

Now excuse me while I line up for Rokurinsha...

The Tokyo Station branch of Rokurinsha is woefully bland though....

No way I'm going to line up 80 metres to get popcorn unless it's at the movies.

BTW, I like the caramel pretzel popcorns sold at AEON theatres.

The only thing I'd queue for is that thing the wife won't do any more....

This makes me wonder how good the popcorn is there.

I'd like to sample an order.

People have desire and time to stand on line for POPCORN??? u-so

Don't see the appeal of popcorn... it has the texture of paper and the same taste.

I'd rather eat paper; fewer empty calories, more fibre.

In Japan, all eateries have this kind of thing when they first open (with the right location, of course). Massive queues spark interest here, rather than disgust. Personally, I hate waiting for anything, so you won't catch me anywhere near a grand opening event..

This shop is the first such establishment in Japan of a famous popcorn company from Chicago. Just at the corner where Meiji Jingu, Harajuku station and Omotesando meet.

You are 100% right. The is exactly what it stems from. People have written many things about Japan and their food obsession. It goes back further than that, but having 90% of TV with shows running around to all corners of Japan shoving their faces with food screaming nothing at all but "OISHI!!!!" harckens back to the post WW2 days when food was a scarce commodity.

This popcorn company opened more than six months ago. Still, the number of people waiting in front of the shop is always high.

Hasn’t this place been here for a while? I walked past here back in January and there were people queuing – at least now I know what it was for!

This is the kind of reason why I refuse to buy anything advertised as 'the new trend' in the media. All of these people will wait hours and pay heaps for something they can buy anywhere, and then the majority will say it was sub-par, with the few remaining saying it was 'umai' simply because they were told it was. Buy some kernels and make your own delicious pop-corn -- it's quite easy -- or if you're not worried about the health problems it could bring, good old Orville Reddenbacher's microwave popcorn will easily suffice while you sit down at home to a nice movie or some TV.

It was the same for Krispy Kreme in Shinjuku a few years ago when it first opened... ridiculously long lines of people... in fact they built metal barriers to guide the queuing people.

Now the queues have gone but the barriers remain.

oh dear, cant help but feel a little pitty. which sane mentally stimulated person would line up for frugen POPCORN!!??

For popcorn? wow, that's one line I'd miss.

IMHO, I feel like the Japanese people like to follow the crowd or like they do it just so they don't feel left out. For example, Hawaii. Everyone goes to Hawaii in Japan. If you haven't been to Hawaii yet, they'll be like, "What?!?! You haven't been to Hawaii?!?!?!" and it just disrupts the flow of the conversation. I mean, it's normal if you see a lot of people eating at a restaurant or if there's a super long time, you'll be like: "Oh what's going on? There's so much people. It must be good. Maybe I'll try it!" But I feel like, this factor is like times 10 in Japan. Another example is when I tried a famous restaurant called "Ore no Furenchi." I waited about an hour in line in the cold. Also, it was a "stand up" restaurant, meaning there were no seats. I was very disappointed with the food. Of all the French restaurants I've ever tried, this had be one of the worst. But hey, it's so packed and there's a lot of people and everyone says it's good, so it must be good right? But if I said it wasn't good, I'd be disrupting the flow of conversation by saying that it wasn't good and going against what everyone else is saying.

I saw this line a few weeks ago as I was walking around Harajuku. I had to do a double take when I saw they were lining up for popcorn. Just makes me shake my head. Then again, I did line up this week for over a hour for a couple of those tasty croissant taiyaki. Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

That must be some damn good popcorn.

The ONLY line this long I would stand in, would be one in Denver; where I could get a TOP SHELF 1/8th for $10, with a coupon.... :)

Firstly I find your comment off subject and freaking rude. You look at an article about popcorn and you bring up this racist crap? Why are you even on this website?

I have seen this shop first hand. It is not the grand opening, as it has been going on like this for a few weeks. People lined up crazy for it in the mornings up until around lunch time. I recommend you try the "Cookie Muncher". It is a NZ cookie shop right around the corner across the road from the Harajuku Station.
