Wonderful cross-section of such highly distinguished artists, each being duly recognized for his/her outstanding body of work. Nice shot of so many smiling visionary faces together.

Yes, when I first saw the title, I thought "Sweet mother of Jesus, not another one of these %'(&$#$&ist awards". But when I saw the photo and read the text......well, it's nice to see people with real talent and who have actually contributed to the world.

There are no new faces ever at the Praemium Imperiale and no surprises. It's like an annual addition of already well known names to a long list of famous people; what's the actual purpose of this event? If there are no new recognitions, no new faces in the spotlight, why pick just a few - and why always already known talents whose recognition by this Japanese entity is surely a comparatively nominal honor? The exercise sadly seems more designed to spotlight the organizers.
