I find this very voyeuristic (or acted)... how is it quiet when all the readers of japantoday will observe you doing it?

All faiths have different customs and prayer etiquette. Just come with an open heart and pure intention and speak your mind to whatever higher power you believe in with respect and reverence.

This is the part of Japan remembered: the juxtaposition of urban and modern against the ancient and private.

Iowan, yes that's something quite unique to Japan's big cities. The mix of ancient and traditional culture with modern hitech and urbanism. It has this seedy cyberpunk atmosphere to it. One moment you're standing in a highly developed city, some steps further and you're in an ancient shrine.

Boring shot really...

Like the photo. Seems a bit off kilter and out of focused, though.

It's not out of focus if you click the full version of the photo on a PC.

Brings on a feeling of tranquillity, calming, quite personal.

A private moment, offering prayers. A great time of year to do this. The only quiet place around my house is our local cemetery. but the traffic going near it makes way too much noise to really become tranquil .

Though this shrine is located in the middle of downtown Tokyo, this small shrine has the just same appearance as the shrine in the most rustic countryside...
