Raising awareness about refugees

Members of Nadeshiko Japan -- Japan's women soccer team -- pose with children at an event organized by the Japan Association for UNHCR at Toyosu Lalaport in Tokyo on Friday. The players joined in games with the children, asking them true or false questions about refugees. The event was held to raise awareness about refugees among children.

Perhaps the first question should be: How many refugees does Japan accept per annum?

Well said, Tokyo999!

Is the answer "I can count them on one clenched hand and a middle finger?"

That's not a true or false question...

ask those accepted refugees what kind of torture they went through in the acceptance process. to be more real Japan does not accept refugees. and ofcourse they are very kind to them unless the refugees touch their land. Deliberate bureaucratic hurdles, endless waiting, breaking families, homeless lives and ofcourse a long stay behind the bars, after all these sufferings IF you are the lucky among the thousands you might get your acceptance letter with gray hair when you take start from your youth

Ali

Well, not many. I lived in Japan for nearly a decade and came across three children who had been adopted by a Japanese. Each couple was older, actually, and did it for religious/humanitarian reasons. Legally, the children had to be adopted, but the 'parents' actually worked hard to raise the children as their wards, and not their children. And encourages the children to keep in contact with the families.

Who lived, of course, in war ravaged east and central Africa.

Nothing more to add but plenty to consider. Thumbs up.

Most refugees and displaced persons return to their communities when peace and stability return to their country. When conditions in countries of origin remain unstable or there is a danger of persecution upon repatriation, some refugees are able to stay in a refugee settlement in another country . Unfortunately many host countries are unable to accept refugees permanently. Resettlement in a third country is the last option, available to only a tiny fraction of the world's refugees. Everyone can help refugees by welcoming them as new and valuable members and also by volunteering at a local resettlement agency. You can become an English tutor, a tour guide, a mentor to a family, donating money, furniture and household items etc. You also support financially.
