She looks really bothered by the two behind her giving her instructions for the ceremony.

good. by the look of those to strict oba-sans behind her, I am sure some husbands are getting bashed at home. This has to stop!

hahah she looks pissed off, probably all the "no no you're doing it wrong" from the Japanese behind.

    PrinceskaNo1

She looks great in kimono but her hair is not appropriate for the kimono wearing, the hair should be up and the head made look big.

    amerijap

Haha! Looks like she's making an elbow grease to stir up tea in a cup.

Past 30, a perfect event for her 'obasan' status

To me, her face seems to say, "People study how to do this for years?"

I think they could have posted a much better picture than that. PrinceskaNo1's comment is right, the hair is all wrong for this situation. I studied tea ceremony briefly and I thought I was going to go out of my mind and all the sitting 'seiza' style killed my legs. I run like the plague whenever some obasan askes me, "do you like Japanese tea? Please come to my tea ceremony group....(so you can be the token gaijin decoration)"

She should stick to what she is good at: mixing cake mix, that is what she looks like she is doing here.

    What a goofy look.

She has the look "Well, this isn't part of popular American culture (which I am part of), so therefore it is stupid..."

Is it just me, or is that tea bowl floating in mid-air?

I don't know about the teacup, Cleo, but if it's you floating, you should consider starting a cult.

Hmm I bet they put this unflattering pic up to draw rude comments about how ugly Western women are compared to Japanese women again. Should fire the photographer if this is the best snap he got.

Wearing a kimono, she puts the "duck" in "duck and cover".

Does anybody else think she looks like Stan Laurel?

I think she's doing a good enough job of expressing what many of us think when we hear how much these dopey old sows spend on this Emperor's New Clothes hobby.

terrible picture, what kind of goodwill is that face she's making?

    usaexpat

absolutely right! She's not doing much for US Women and USA image. This is why they say some things are too Japanese for non-Japanese to do correctly.
