Security robot

Security robot
REUTERS/Kim Kyung-Hoon

A mock intruder gets tangled in a net that was launched by the remote-controlled security robot T-34 during a demonstration in Tokyo. T-34 users can see live images from the robot’s camera and control the robot using a mobile phone. The robot, which has sensors that react to body heat and sound, can launch a net against an intruder by remote-control during its surveillance.

no wonder the intruder fell, look at those shoes

  • 0

    some14some

Robot seems at risk, can be stolen easily by an intruder.

  • 0

    kagunlapell

useless, as most of robots...unless the dorobo is a retarded one who feels threaten by a toy.

Living on the 10th floor and installing some booby traps works too.

  • 0

    Smythe

Not portable & can be in use to most officers. The idea is better then a f/arm or a Tazer at present time.

    IcingDeath

I seriously hope this is a prototype that will lead to something more useful.

  • 0

    bobcatfish

    it's not quite spiderman

  • 0

    bdiego

I heard this can catch 3 people in one net. Maybe good for police action against a riot.

  • 0

    seggahme

can be hacked via net and used against police itself

  • 0

    neverknow2

    retarded one

    ????????????????????????????

IcingDeath: "I seriously hope this is a prototype that will lead to something more useful."

It certainly does. T-34 will lead directly to the T-1000 Terminator model which will come to visit us in a past that is not yet written to try and create a future that we must do anything to avoid. There was a documentary made about it a few years back. check it out.

Luckily, intruders never carry sharp objects or lighters - FAIL.

    T-1000

    Haha!

Maybe they should arm the T-34 with poison darts.

  • 0

    Altria

    Man, I'd cream that robot.

  • 0

If several security robots approach the intruder from different directions at same time, it becomes more realistic for intruder to be captured by net insted of by police.

  • 0

    soldave

So when the intruder kicks the T-34 onto its side rendering it useless, he escapes, right?

  • 0

    WilliB

Robocop looks a lot less impressive than in the movies :-)

  • 0

    zurcronium

Can a smoker detector be added so that smokers in smoke free zones can be netted and fined?

  • 0

    franz75

zurcronium: I heard robots mounted with guns will be available for that soon.

Look at the tiny wheels. No chance to climb or crawl down stairs. This security robot is not much bigger than the Wall-E toy, where my little 3year old boy is playing with (it also has a remote control).

You can tell he's a mock intruder from the mock turtleneck.

  • 0

    What, no laser beams?

  • 0

    sharky1

Just outflank it and tip it over...

  • 0

    bobbafett

I think a dalek model with a net would be more intimidating. Perhaps even an R2D2, but definitely not a pesky C3PO.

  • 0

    sf2k

tough gig. he can barely keep it over his legs (fails) and was probably already on the mock floor

  • 0

    Mark_McCracken

If you just push this robot over, and it wouldn't be able to move. Kind of useless.

  • 0

    saborichan

Yes. He certainly looks like he's trying to get as fetal as possible under that warm little net. I mean, if it was shot at you, would it even do anything? Carrying no weight...

  • 0

    Jigg88

he looks like he should still be able to get up and run like hell

  • 0

    Wottock_Hunt

Lucky he"s holding that net onto himself with both hands. otherwise he"d be able to get to his unecumbered feet and run away.

  • 0

    sf2k

why the obsession with intruders? does japan get a lot of 'em?

  • 0

    gogogo

This looks so stupid and useless, a net like that would not hold anyone.

  • 0

    30061015

Why the T-34? The T-34 was a Soviet medium tank produced from 1940 to 1958. Surely Japan can think of something more original for a remote control net shooting toy that would be useless against an intruder with a sharp knife.

  • 0

    nidu

a poisonous gas or a heated laser beam could have been more effective than this one.

  • 0

    Beelzebub

I can see great potential for this on the stage of a certain Roppongi fetish club...

  • 0

    Spidey

As long as the perp lays down in the fetal position, I'm sure this robotoy will work just fine.

    ptolemy

It looks to me as if the mock intruder is pulling the net over himself. The robot may have only netted the torso.

  • 0

    doedel

If it works under water, might come in handy get some fish or tako.

  • 0

    zurcronium

The LDP will be using this device to capture voters in the next election.

  • 0

    Asara

Why an intruder should wait until it fires a net?!

  • 0

    JeromeInJapan

Who would want to catch a intruder? Id rather a robot with laser eyes that says "exterminate, exterminate" and does just so. Then turns itself in to the local J cops.

  • 0

    Eizenhauer

It's a nice beginning, a great idea to make such robot but i personally think that the net throwing feature isn't enough to stop the intruder. There should be an extremely loud siren that will cause some damage to his hearing canal, and then a video recorder and a rubber bullets gun that will constantly keep shooting at his lower body until the intruder leaves the home. Only with features like these would i put money down on table and buy one of them even if the price was a bit higher...
