I remember going there about 12 or more years ago, and it was the same, the RAIN doesn't stop ANYONE from going to Harajuku... :)

That is just pure crazy. I would never shop like these people.

I also wonder if there are any eyes taken out in a place like this. There's gotta be a handful of people that run to the hospital for getting thier eye poked by an umbrella.

Why don't people wear raincoats with hoods? Far more practical than umbrellas in these situations.

Takeshita Dori is crowded everyday and even more so on weekends.

Sun like this at 5am in Japan's winter? Not likely.

Awesome shot. I absolutely hate being stuck in such a sea of umbrellas, but not much you can do except avoid it altogether.

I have to tell some of you that this is the easiest photo to compose. I know exactly where this is: looking east on Takeshita Dori from the Harajuku JR station end of the street and looking downhill. I took a photo like this my first time in Japan maybe fifteen years ago.

Yeah, I recognized it right off the bat, and I rarely go to harajuku. :)

You too?! LOL. I got a pic just like this, except for the umbrellas.

As @2020hindsight said, why don't people wear raincoats?

I think it's completely ridiculous to use an umbrella when it snows. In Canada you would be laughed at for doing so, because it simply doesn't make sense.. that's why we have hooded shirts and raincoats.

Good photo of a lot of colour & to me umbrellas are sort of non-existant, but if I lived in Vancouver, B.C., Canada they are a must.

Actually my comment made no sense, like most people's comments. Please forgive me, I take it back.

This is actually a great photo.

I guess it's one of those must have photo-op spots because it would be difficult to find a better vantage point than this.

Detract the color of the shoppers or the number of the people ?

Actually my comment made no sense, like most people's comments.

the picture doesn't make any sense so no need to apologize it is also lack of common sense for going shopping there and in the rain too.

I see the Golden Arches there on the left. I be lovin' their new Miami Burger, available only for the next 3 weeks!

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these shoppers from spending their money on trifle wares.
