Girls prepare for the famous Tenjin Matsuri (festival) in Minami-Mirimachi, Osaka. The two-day festival, which begins Tuesday, is one of the three biggest summer festivals in Japan, along with the Gion festival in Kyoto and the Kanda festival in Tokyo. The 1,000-year-old festival culminates in a huge fireworks display.

I'd rather see them in normal clothes such as mini-skirts and knee socks. Yukata hide all the best bits!

According to JNTO, "One of the highlights of the festival is the land procession, which is a parade of some 3,000 people dressed in the imperial-court style of the 8th-12th Centuries marching beside portable shrines. The other highlight is the boat procession, when the same 3,000 people board some 100 boats from the approach of the Tenmabashi Bridge and sail upstream". (Japan National Tourism Organization)

I agree. There's only so many times you can get assaulted with the mini-skirt/knee sock combination before it doesn't get noticed anymore. The yukata/kimono styles add a bit of grace and history to the festivals (assuming they aren't wearing geta) ;-)

I guess I have not hit the magic number yet. Anyway, it is a nice photo and the yukata look great on the young women. Always a welcome sight.

That's possible. As a child of the '60's, I've been encountering mini-skirts for over half a century.

You could be talking about centuries and it still would not be the magic number. Some things just keep looking good. Like these young ladies in yukata, for example.
