U.S. President Barack Obama visits the Great Buddha statue in Kamakura on Sunday afternoon. “I was only 6 the last time I was here,” Obama said. ‘‘I looked up at that centuries-old symbol of peace and tranquility—the great bronze Amida Buddha. And as a child, I was more focused on the ‘matcha’ ice cream. But I have never forgotten the warmth and the hospitality that the Japanese people showed a young American far from home.” Obama’s visit to the site of the 13-meter-high bronze statue was the last stop on his 10-day Asian tour. He sat with his hosts, ate green tea ice cream and toted away a bag of gifts, including two bracelets for his daughters, Malia and Sasha.

He got the time to visit kamakura? Jeez thought hammering out deals in yokohama would have been more important. Just goes to show the americans are getting value for their tax dollars aint they!!!

just think how many people got turned away from the going there because Obama was there. So many people go there this time of year with the leaves changing and their visit got screwed up because of all the extra security.

No. Why would it be required to close access to a public place just because the President of The United states is visiting. The other tourists are probably all inside the Daibutsu.

All the coin lockers in Tokyo Station in the basement down by Maru Build have been sealed, which is just bizarre as I though APEC was being held in Yokohama and Obama's visit was to Kamakura ? Nowhere near Maru Build, unless they are totally telegraphing another trip (through Tokyo Station).
