Cosmetic surgeon-turned celebrity Ayako Nishikawa, 39, left, joins transsexual celebrity Ai Haruna, 37, at a promotional event Tuesday for Kagome’s new line of TOMAREPI! tomato-based stir-fried and stew products. “TOMAREPI!” is short for “Tomato de kantan watashi no recipe!” or “My simple recipe using tomatoes.” In the TV commercial, which airs from Wednesday, Haruna plays a tomato fairy-godmother helping housewives who are inexperienced at cooking.

Wasabi, I believe he is a she now. Got all the necessary surgery done. No going back. Would rather hang with Haruna than Nishikawa sensei any day. She became famous primarily for her near-incomprehensible conceit. (supposedly she has mellowed since getting married)

Here's my simple recipe using tomatoes:
Ingredients: Two 400 gram cans whole peeled Italian tomatoes, 2 green peppers, 1/4 small-medium onion, 1 teaspoon salt, 2-3 teaspoons Italian herb mix ( oregano, rosemary, marjoram, tyme ), 2-3 tablespoons brown or white sugar
Crush the tomatoes a little, chop the green peppers & onion medium-fine, throw everything into a pot, put the gas on high, stir with a wood spoon til it starts bubbling, turn the gas down on low, put a lid loosely on the pot, simmer 10-15 minutes stirring a couple of times. Presto - Extremely Delicious & Healthy Stewed Tomatoes! Yer all welcome!

I don't buy into it at all... the poor woman is pushed as a celebrity because she's a transexual, not because of talent. When they introduce her on variety shows or what have you, it's always, "Here's transexual Ai Haruna!" (even in the explanation of the picture), never just, "Here's Ai Haruna". It's like with a lot of 'talento' in Japan; treated like zoo exhibitions.
Regardless, this is one product I won't be trying based on how they're advertising, if these are their models. Not because I have anything against Ai Haruna (the doc is a hack, though), but because of how the media exploits her.
