Tree of Hope

Tree of Hope
JAPAN TODAY

Princess Akishino, (2nd right), Refugees International Japan President Jane Best and two children from international schools light the Tree of Hope in Karajan Plaza at Ark Hills in Tokyo on Tuesday morning. The campaign’s theme is “Light Up the Life of a Refugee Child.” The tree, which came from Tohoku, will be in place until Jan 6 and throughout the period there will be a variety of events associated with it, each designed to raise funds for Refugees International. Each Saturday there will also be a marketplace at which a variety of goods will be on sale, all to benefit RIJ. Highlights include musicians Rosa and Kazuki singing Colombian songs and Russian Kalinka dancing by Jenya Shpot (Dec 1), St Mary’s Bell Choir performing from 12 noon - 1 p.m. (Dec 6), Australian Ballet Company and Ruby Room Orchestra performances (Dec 8) and Seisen School Orchestra singing carols from 4.30-5:30 p.m. on Dec 12.

I didn't recognize Prince Akishino! Nice tree!

Right around the corner here are two great restaurants, Plates ( Italian ), and Bubby's ( NY ).

does the small tree, and the lack of people in attendance represent the amount of hope there is?

The two microphones seem a bit much unless there's a large crowd behind the photographer. The tree is placed against a large building that dwarfs it (bad placement). I HOPE they at least dug up the "Tree of HOPE" rather than just cut it down, so the tree has a HOPE of living to see another Summer.

Christmas has nothing to do with a tree any way. Keeping it real stop the commercialization of a christian day of recognition. Celebrate Christ not going into debt.
