Tribute to Bowie

A shopper looks at CDs of David Bowie at a Tower Records store in Tokyo on Tuesday. Bowie, the chameleon-like star who transformed the sound - and the look - of rock with his audacious creativity and his sexually ambiguous makeup and costumes, died of cancer Sunday.

A tribute? Looks more like an opportunity to cash in. Make a huge poster, play his songs in the store, list CDs/DVDs, and sell them at a discount or don't sell anything there at all.

I disagree with the "chameleon-like". A chameleon merges with its surroundings by adaptation. David Bowie managed to make his surroundings adapt to him. May his legacy last forever.

Usual record company cashing-in on a superstars passing. I guess Bowie's family will benefit from an increase in sales but it would be respectful if the record company did not take their cut, which they will.

Blackstar was just released on Friday. I'm sure the Bowie estate is quite pleased with the fact that CD sales will spike in the upcoming days and weeks. This was, afterall Bowie's farewell to his fans

Yeah its a bit hard to fault Tower when the CD pretty much was just released....

There is big money in death. Look at the estates of Michael Jackson and Elvis for example.

My world is a little darker know David Bowie is no longer here. Dusting off my vinyl for a Bowie weekend.

Ground Control to Major Tom Commencing countdown, engines on Check ignition and may God's love be with you (David Bowie) RIP

Bowie was an entertainer. It comes with the territory. I'm sure when he started out David would have loved this type of advertisement.

Bowie just released a record; of course he would have wanted the sales.

RIP Goblin King

I'm not saying they should NOT cash in, and obviously the industry and others will, I'm just saying it's not a "tribute". Kobe White Bar Owner dusting off his vinyls for a Bowie weekend -- THAT is a tribute! MTV having a Bowie Day or something! That's a tribute! Artists this week doing renditions of his work in honor of him, THAT is a tribute! Putting a CD rack at the front of a shop and shouting, "Get yer Bowie CDs! Bowie CDs here, ¥1980 yen!!" is NOT a tribute.

@ smith

I hear ya "Get yer Bowie CDs! Bowie CDs here, ¥1980 yen!!" is NOT a tribute." but im guessing he released it just before his death to add to his legacy and to put some more food on the plates of his loved ones. As for me im kinda shocked went through my lp collection that i shipped from home 10 yrs back and the only artist i have every album of his Bowie, strange but true. Bowie marathon starts friday night.

@Kobe White Bar Owner, I hope you'll do that marathon in your bar. And if you do, my only regret is that I can't be there. Of course, you could save it for when I get there, this spring :-)
