weekly demo, or weak demo?

Again I'll ask. Can anyone tell me why domestic problems get such a short article. I'd love to know more details from both sides.

The government said it intends to stop using nuclear power by the 2030s.............but continues to find ways to restart its reactors sitting on major fault lines. What's the point in voicing one's opinion.

I am really gald Japanese people are finding their voice and standing up for something. My one question is what about the hundreds of other important issues out there to stand up for as well that are just 100% being ignored in Japan. Aids, cancer, smoking, homeless, clean drinking water in Africa? What about nuclear build up of north Korea and Iran. I am far more worried about Iran and and North Koreas reactors than Japan's. What about all the political issues forgiven and domestic, that Japanese politics ignores or is beniegn towards? Lower birthrate. Shrinking economy. Corporate curuption. Raising number of guns coming into the country. Legal smoking herbs that kids can buy in stores and vending machines. Drunk driving ((which even with lower speed limits than the UK and USA they have higher per capita drink driving related deaths than the USA and UK). The list goes on. It has been 30 years since Japan has shown major demonstrations like this. It shouldn't take 30 years.

@gaijinfo

BOTH.

It was already taken down a peg when they attached the word "weekly". Politicians won't take it seriously.

You really need some smoke in the city if you want change. Corrupt faulty politicians in Japan are dug in like ticks. You have to oust them like Ghadafi if you want change.

Good on these people for caring enough to get out there - I doubt any of the old-age-pensioners in suits (pretending to be politicians) are listening though.

These two countries have never - nor are they ever likely to be physically able to - nuke Japanese people. Japan, on the other hand, has nuked Japanese people. It is not a threat: it has happened already and continues to this day. Furthermore, Japanese companies will nuke Japanese people again unless they are monitored 24-7 and regulated 100%. You make some nice points, though.

Japan is well-known frequent earthquake and tsunami country. It should not depend on nuclear energy in such environment form the beginning, so it may as well find another energies and protesters are no doubt right.

How today Japanese patriotic they are. They demonstrate against their own PM for doing for improve country economy but no one was went to demonstrate at Communist Chinese Embassy over their 6 patrol ships invading Japanese territorial water. Wake up peoples! Don't sleep in 20 century and now 21st century. Country like Japan needs Nuclear power. Peoples will understand later how Wind turbine and Solar Power has damage our environment one day. They are not clean energy at all.

All those against nuclear power will be very willing to fund the alternatives such as LNG from Russia, I'm sure. At the "demos" they should collect donations and addresses so that it is known where to send the bills.

The japan has state of the art technology in the construction of nuclear reactors which makes the current nuclear reactors are extremely safe. Some of these stupid people will rethink when unemployment hit its door and electric bill go up three times more. Is it so hard for these idiots understand that Japan can not abandon nuclear power?

They are calling it the People's Nuclear Energy Awakening! ........and who knows, the awakening may spread to other countries (at the disappointment of IAEA whose only aim is to encourage use of nuclear energy at any cost). Don't be deceived that Japan government want change to renewables...they are only looking for votes and are just forced! It is the people such as those demonstrating outside Noda's residence or the few prefecture leaders who we should honor, NOT the politicians. The other day, the unusually hot summer months let the doomsday pessimists down when Japan did not have any power cuts despite the switching off of the nuke plants. Any ten reasons why they should be restarted?

Why is the second guy on the left holding a cigarette? Don't he know 1.4 cigarettes are as dangerous as 1mSv of radiation to himself, and likely as bad as 20man-mSv to the group? Hypocrite attack the safety of plants while causing far much more damage to innocent protestors.
