What a doll
Picture of the Day ( 3 )
Sumikazu Nakata paints on a daruma doll, which is believed to bring good luck, at his studio in Takasaki, about 100 km northwest of Tokyo. The Japanese use the Daruma dolls, representing the Indian priest Bodhidharma, the founder of Zen Buddhism in China, to seek good luck. Some candidates standing for election traditionally paint only one eye on the doll when they start their campaign and paint the other eye if they win in the election.
