They don't want to give it any viruses.

Is the new iOS virus that bad? Can it effect the DNA of humans?

Two of them will still get infected, as their mask does not even cover their nose! Maybe it is just to stop them sneezing over the iPad mini?

To people outside Japan it must really be a confusing image. "Why are three young surgeons looking at an iPad? "

I so dislike those masks.

They are confused and think it is a mirror!
*Those masks do nothing to stop you getting or spreading viruses. In fact, you are more likely to catch a virus from wearing one one because the mask is a warm and wet with plenty of circulating air making it the perfect environment for bacteria to live. When the SARS scare was prevalent a doctor released a report stating, for those masks to be effective they need to be 12 ply surgical masks and changed every 20 minutes.

Nice to see that they are considerately avoiding misting up by not breathing on the screen

IPad Mini rocks. Steve Jobs was so wrong.
I love it when I see Japanese buy something they don't want simply cause it comes from America. Fact is,our products are so unbelievably better than Japan's they are compelled to buy Apple. If things were equal they'd buy Japanese.
Apple = 10 times better than anything you got.

The iPad mini with LTE would be nice. Softbank has a unlimited wireless plan for something like JPY5k/mo. If you need (or want) constant internet access, that would be really cool.
Still, there are cheaper and better Android tablets out there that would do the same thing without locking you into Apple's monopolistic ecosystem.

Are schoolchildren allowed to be hanging around stores in uniform? Most schools I know have very strict rules about things like that. I hope their teachers don't see this pic!

-School uniforms are what school people wear and what they identify themselves with/by. Unless people start demanding them to take it off while outside school, -then they would need another backpack for that (not gonna happen).
Need an iPad smaller than the iPad mini or an iPhone that is larger. iPad mini 7.9" screen. iPhone 4" screen. =You have nothing in between that and some people may even like a smaller iPhone. If you look at the photo you can see they are thinking that this is nice, but still a tablet (large). Do I really want a tablet (iPad) or just a bigger phone that I can easily place in one hand or pocket and easily transport.
The iPad mini would be nice for reading books, doing homework, internet in bed etc. But for lugging around as a phone it still seems to0 large. Where as Android devices like the Galaxy Note really hit the sweet spot of the larger phone that can also act a tablet. 4.5->6" is really the sweet spot and people are really picky. You could easily have products at 4.5" 4.75" 5" 5.25" 5.5" 5.75" and see that people would have a preference with regard to hand size and eyesight. You also could have hand fit preference (shape) that changes with size.

Last year, Apple was still the leading company for tablets with 43.5% of the market with Samsung in distant second with 15% of the market. The release of a 128GB version of the iPad is likely that Apple will continue to hold the number one position.

Half right. When properly worn (and as has been noted, two of the girls aren't wearing them right), they can assist in not spreading an illness you already have through sneezing or coughing. You've already contracted the virus you're sneezing or coughing into the mask, so the fact that it's a breeding ground isn't that big a deal. As for preventing getting sick yourself from an airborne virus, I agree that they're next to useless because they're not air-tight.
That said, Apple cannot be happy with this photo because it implies that Apple stores and their customers are unhealthy.

Correction: SOFTBANK can't be happy because their store and customers are cesspools of infection. ;-)

I doubt it if they are really school girls. My daughter step daughter was over 20 and still dressed in school uniforms and when she went to buy some sake presents they would not allow her just because of the uniform. They did not even care to ask for proof of age, and she did not care to challenge them either. You make the rest of the comments fot me please.

They look way over school age, already qualifying as "young obaasan".

Amazing. You were able to determine that just from seeing a picture that amounts to two noses and a bunch of black hair? Sensei! Teach us your amazing powers of observation!
