Yes, we can

Yes, we can

Greenpeace activists wearing masks depicting Japan’s incoming prime minister Yukio Hatoyama and U.S. President Barack Obama pose in front of the Diet building in Tokyo on Tuesday. The event was held to support Hatoyama’s pledge to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 25% from 1990 levels by 2020.

If Greenpeace has been assigned to address a problem it is guaranteed a solution will never be found.

    25% from 1990 levels

25% of 1990 levels is what in 2009?

    25% in 1990 could be 1% of 2009...

Is this a protest or celebration?

Molenir: yes, you can destroy the planet.

ironchef: if the no life guys like you called them weren't around, I believe that the environment will be much more polluted than now...

Does Greenpeace realize that Japanese-language signs work much better than English-language signs in Japan?

It sure would be nice if Greenpeace, etc would concentrate more on lowering pollution in general and coming up with solutions for providing clean drinking water for the world. '40% lower greenhouse gas by 2020' is nowhere near as immediately beneficial a target as giving people water that doesn't make them ill.

Ah, so Franz thinks its ok to destroy the worlds economy, as long as we're supposedly saving the planet. That makes everything all right then. Good to know.

People at the mask companies have really got to get it together and make a decent likeness of Hatoyama. So far of all the masks we've seen not a single one looks a wee bit like him at all. The Aso masks they had down. In this case, Obama's is a bit dodgy, too, but at least it's a general likeness.

I keep wondering when India and Red China will start cutting back, and when the rest of the world will realize that they -- not the USA -- are the culprits in this "Global Warming" thing....

I see that the Land Ministry was saying the other day that the DPJ's plan to make the expressways toll-free would increase CO2 output around 33%.
