Oh because they've been so timid up till now?

Remember Japan's invasion of China and the onerous was compensation imposed through the Shimonoseki treaty? It just put China into poverty. Now that China is wealthy, it needs to make sure the same does not repeat again. So, instead of fear mongering, look at what is expected of any country that has economic status like US, UK, France, Germany, Russia. They all have strong armies. We already saw what happened to Iraq, Lybia, Egypt and now Syria.
