This photo of Abe reminds me of the guy on TV chanting "Imadeshou!". I really can't say I support this man, but I hope he makes the neccessary changes, NOW!

I am not sure that employment is the main issue in Japan. Much more problematic is lack of opennness in the economy.

I don't believe this is anything new at all. The Japanese attitude towards working/studying is that of sacrifice, without ever questioning long hours/ dumb tests/whatever a boss or teacher says. At my place of work, people are so complacent I get sick. Management squeezes hours to save money, having some people work 3-hour shifts, yet no one speaks up. They just take it. It isn't far fetched to imagine how it must have been in the 50's/60's when a country fresh out of war saw the opportunity to grow economically.
