ah yes more funds...because they've spent the billions already given so efficiently...read a story today, Nokia poll that said africans prefer to buy mobile phones rather than staple foods
If the leaders brought back all their offshore deposits that they have salted away over the years, there would be plenty of resources, and they could pay off all their debts too.
Too often in the media, the face of Africa is obese, Oxbridge-educated leaders in pinstripe suits, jumping into armoured Mercedes limousines, mouthing platitudes such as, "I'm doing it for my people...."
wanderlust i agree with you on this one. Mabuto died leavinbg 50 million in US dollars under his bed and 4 billion in a Swiss bank account. It so happens that the 4 billion was equal to Zaire's national debt,
I agree wonderlust. The African Representatives all are corrupt. Their people are suffering and all they can think about is the frikkin' money. Their not doing their part at all... just saying what they want their people to hear.
In the past 40 to 50 years billions of US dollars in aids had been poured into Africa and what did it accomplish? Nothing, except enriching a few selected dictators. The money would have been better spent if it was used to provide birth control to all the people in Africa. Being able to control the population growth would have been able to solve just about all the problems Africa faces today.
So how many of these African representatives are ready to criticise Mugabe for running his country into the ground, creating poverty and famine on the way?
The best that could happen to Africa is if we completely abandon them and have them sort their own crap out. It may take over 100 years, but they have to go through social and political turmoil that we went through. Tribes would fight, create kingdoms, feudalism would prevail. further wars would create republics and hopefully they will have their industrial revolutions that would lead them to civilized society with free markets, education, freedom of speech,etc.. Just because they are behind in development doesn't mean we have to force our way upon us.

After all, we have our own problems to sort out.
