‘‘extremely strict’’ What a joke - I propose that strict would be loss of job, and some hefty jail time.

Such harsh punishment. I'm sure they will never do it again!

'extremely strict'? I think that when the Chinese authorities found out who was behind shipment of tainted products to Japan and in some cases exexuted them, THAT was strict! Way out of line and completely wrong, of course, but my point is that a mere pay cut for a short time is nothing at all by way of punishment. They should be fired for starters, then locked up for a year or two. THAT would be a little strict.

And i will go a step further than 'extremely strict' measure and discipline myself by never eating Japanese rice and related rice products.

Extremely strict?!

!!! a big joke ... 'extremely strict, huh!?' maybe the minister thinks it's so strict as he decided to part with 2 months of his own salary!

The punishment will be to stand in Tokyo Station, bow and tearfully apologize and beg "Please do not toss us aside." The real solution is to throw the corrupt LDP out and put the equally corrupt DPJ in its place. Aso was owned in the debate in the Diet yesterday by Ozawa. All Aso could reply to anything was "Nantonaku".

"return his pay for two months... the punishment of the officials is "extremely strict."
A neighboring Asian country punishes this kind of corruption with a bullet to the head. Now, THAT would be strict.
Make them eat toxic rice 3 meals a day for two months. That would be fair.

of course..it will be election in few months, why lose some? LDP is a joke but nobody's laughing. Can somebody cure the apathy of Japanese society in general?

C'mon people! Can't you see what's happening here? These punishments are negotiated to keep these people from going public and implicating those higher up who directed this massive deception! You can't "strictly" punish someone when you're just as guilty and want them to keep their mouths shut!

The "extremely strict" punishment is obviously not mentioned in this article.
