It's not that easy for the effects of changed policy to become visible in any country. Most people want change that will benefit them but aren't willing to stick it out to let new policy do it's work and it's not 2 or 4 years. I hope Japan can get back on track and I'm all for positive thinking unlike some of you who have posted here. The old addage "The rich get richer and poor get poorer" is not really a true statement." If you are willing to tax the heck out of big business or industry do you think it is just the rich that are going to feel the effects of being heavily taxed? Think again; since they are the job creators and the ones supplying all the commodities it is for sure that all that added tax will hit the consumer and guess what...prices go up for gas, food, employee work checks, and the list goes on and on. Think people!!!

I hope Aso gets the votes! It will be refreshing to have a Japanese PM again!

I got the impression you were a Republican supporter. Surely you can't be all that keen on the idea of a Prime Minister who wants to raise the Consumption Tax and spend more government money on handouts for businesses that can't stand on their own two feet?

he's a shyster and just looking out for himself and his cronies. i.e. a politician.

    serendipity,

The revolving door of Japan's leadership is seriously damaging Japan's worldwide reputation. It will also have a catastrophic effect on the economy.

Anti-Japanese said this ten years ago, yet Japan's place in the global economy has never been stronger. Do you have some proof to backup this claim?

Our first Catholic Prime Minister will be good for Japan. Truth is, a minority of Japanese are Christian, but they have higher average income. Perhaps Aso can inspire more Japanese to see the path to wealth - Christ.

Why don't we see if Takuya Kimura is free. He did a pretty good job playing the role of the PM in the J-Drama Change.

Most likely Aso is next PM. A lady PM in japan unlikely, unless China has a lady president first.

At least Japan has a credible woman contesting the post - has a leading female of the CCP stood for the presidency? Not to my knowledge.

thank you Simon_Foston for speaking the truth and Kitsune Youkai face the hard truth the Japanese government is just as bad as the US gov. when it comes to not carrying about the lower classes and corruption. Positive thinking dosen't help the truth does and when you see that then real change can take place. I would advise you ( Kitsune Youkai) to do more reading in the areas of politics and economics

Being a Japanese politician is the most easy jobs in the world. You dont need to have poltical talents or senses what you need is a family background with political heritages or simply say politics talking in the streets! many Japanese politicians sit in the PM post were benefited from family heritage...for Mr Aso thats a matter of time.He was younger than Mr Fukuda thats why he has to stay behind .Now this is his turn next year!

  • reddragonguy at 12:18 PM JST - 6th September

rjdsr, I think it is sad that he will have to obey Souka Gakkai.

I thought there'd already been one. One of those two-month wonders that Japanese electoral politics seems to churn out with regularity.
