Typical politician backpedaling. Whether we end up with President Obama or McCain, either way the odds are pretty high that the US is going to put more pressure for Japan to to participate in the Afghan war beyond just refueling. Japan needs to wake up and smell the coffee.

Japanese Defense Budget is same level with British Budget,but about 25% of it donate for US Military activity(Like Omoiyari Yosan,Missile defense Development Cooperation,Free refueling to US fleet),because Japanese government scare"Free Rider Criticism" from US. But actually Japan Government manage the donation to support US military activity, by spoiling her self defence system. For example Koizumi Administration reduce Tanks from 900 to 600,Fighters from 400 to 260, for managing Missile defence development project budget,which shoot down Eastern ICBM fly away to US.

Agree, J need to weak up. We help more the US but at the cost of become more ond more dependent of the US. Proud of have a more asertive about our responsability with the world, at the cost of our indendependence.
