'Nonsensical comment. The advantage of having them is to prevent others from using them - pretty basic stuff. Bullying non-nuclear powers is not the way to do so, however China's leaders seem to have a better grasp of this than you. China's nuclear weapons are there as a buffer against Russia and the US, and maybe India.'

Uh, Unagi, then why is Japan soiling it's pants and trying so hard to form a 'bulwark' against China (allying with Australia, India, etc), and buttering up to the United States to 'strengthen' the alliance? Reason is, China is growing it's military, and the implicit threat is that China can nuke Japan to saw dust. Japan's nervous, plain and simple. Spin this as you will.

And please, try to refrain from the childish remarks about video games and such, as I assume you are older than 19.

the implicit threat is that China can nuke Japan to saw dust.

That's been true for about 30 years, nothing new there. Again, the fact that China has the capability to destroy much of Japan (or any other country) is hardly eye-opening but is not that big of a deal to Japan since there is no benefit to China in doing so, ignoring the fact that China has also publicly stated that it will not attack a non-nuclear state with its nuclear arsenal.

Basically, Japan has no more reason to worry about China's nuclear arsenal that you do about your neighbor who COULD burn down your house with gasoline if he wants to. People who brag about this capability of destruction for no apparent benefit have some issues, I'd say.

China is building up its conventional military (especially its asymmetric advantage) and that is seen aa a potential threat by Japan, Taiwan, India, Australia and other democracies in the region, but hardly pants-wetting. It's called prudence and hedging your bets, particularly given the trade relations between China and Japan. Nuking your best customers isn't the best idea, I'd say.

Again, the official line from all out of Fukuoka (even Xinhua) is that China and Japan have more in common than more to benefit from closer relations. No talk of nuking there. But again, that's a sign of maturity.

    Unagi,

Your last post comes along way from your previous immature posts on cracking down on peasants and fantasizing over video games, so I applaud your progress.

"Basically, Japan has no more reason to worry about China's nuclear arsenal that you do about your neighbor who COULD burn down your house with gasoline if he wants to. People who brag about this capability of destruction for no apparent benefit have some issues, I'd say."

I don't think anyone is bragging here of nuclear capabilities, just stating facts. If Japan wasn't nuked and stripped of all offensive capabilities after WW2, they'd be stating their prowess as well.

'Again, the official line from all out of Fukuoka (even Xinhua) is that China and Japan have more in common than more to benefit from closer relations. No talk of nuking there. But again, that's a sign of maturity.'

Of course! Based on your naive comments, how could it be otherwise?

  • UnagiDon at 09:21 AM JST - 14th December

I don't think anyone is bragging here of nuclear capabilities, just stating facts.

Right, and that's a strange fact to be stating repeatedly, as it seems to pop up in your posts a lot, ignoring let alone user name. Again, if a neighbor kept on saying that he COULD burn down my house and defended it by saying it's "just a fact", I'd think it a little strange. Wouldn't you?

Of course! Based on your naive comments, how could it be otherwise?

Could you explain this one for me? Seems superfluous and I don't see the connection.

Aso protests Chinese ships intruding into Japanese waters

    zurcronium:

Aso should just declare war on china now before he gets wiped out in the next election. You know he would love to do that since he is a relic of the 1930s.

I'm always puzzled by comments like this coming from gaijin who, like zurcronium, have been here for decades. Why remain if you believe such garbage? Is it exciting to post stuff like this? Do you imagine you are getting back at 'the man'?

My sympathy goes to Japan and the Japanese for their territorial concern over China's ambition and its so-called "peaceful rise" As there is a discussion going on over the relation of Japan and China, I'd like to cordially invite you folks to visit and command at

japan and china should just suck all the minerals surrounding the waters together and spilt the spoil. later nobody will give a damn on the piece of barren rocks, that's making more sense.

You just don't get it Unagi. The point is, Japan cannot do anything more than protest. As I stated before, Japan is a child nation and cannot play with the boys in the big leagues. My illustration is simple, you have Japan making a fuss against a nuclear armed power. Clearly, Japan is not in the same league. Got it now?

"Could you explain this one for me? Seems superfluous and I don't see the connection."

I was making a connection between your naive and immature comments about cracking down on peasants to your then change of face comments on relations between China and Japan. Basically, you have lost credibility.

Now hear this..... After WWII( Japan signed and agreed with the Potsdan >Surrender Papers and these papers included the Cairo Accords of 1943 >which returned Formosa to the Taiwanese and Korea to the Koreans and >the ?Ryukyu Islands to the Ryukyu people which was then known as the GRI >(Government of the Ryukyu Islands) Then came the "secret deal" that > Japan will not talk about and which Japan claims was a reversion of the >Ryukyuan people (and their lands - which included the Senkaku Islands.)

Now hear this. The GRI was the name of the US Military Occupation Government for adminstration of Okinawa during and after the Miltary Occupation of Japan. It was never some grassroots Okinawan" government.

The GRI can get along with China, but Japan cannot, so Japan treads very >softly.

How something that no longer exists can get along with anybody is beyond me.

Japan has the capabilities to develop nuclear weapons very quickly if she chose to. In fact it won't be long before this becomes a viable option to them. It's better to have nukes than to try and match China pound for pound in military hardware. I don't buy your notion that Japan is a child amongst men.

  • Athletes at 06:28 PM JST - 15th December

I do not understand about the posters immaturity, strong hatred and child likes comments here. Narrow minded nationalism was uncivilzed, impolite & unwelcomed. Nippon has territory disputes with Russia, China, South Korea, Phillipines, Vietnam & Taiwan. If all disputes have to solve with nuke wars, the whole planent will become ashes soon. War is a last of the last option for every problem. Demanding too much resources. Even superpower could not afford to fight two wars at the same time.

All other alternative ways needed to exhausted first. Besides that Japan was the first nation for suffering the horrific consequence of nuke. We do not want more nukes or wars.

As a former resident of Hiroshima, we are against the war with everyone. We still have a sad memory of suffering & loss. The consequence of nuke war was unimagineable.

No more Hiroshima & Nagaski!!! Let's give a chance for peace. Let's the doves fly on the sky.

    Well said, Athletes.

  • UnagiDon at 09:18 AM JST - 16th December

    Got it now?

Nope, as all you've done is repeated the same thing over and over again, not responding to the factual points I raised, plus ample use of insults.

    Basically, you have lost credibility.

I can barely contain my disappointment.

Excellent! Filed that one to counter future stupidity about Japan having "the most territorial disputes", thanks.
