W/out sounding toooooo regional, APEC does have the divergence of economies to establish a financial structure more compatible to a larger spectrum of economies. Time will tell, but I am optimistic that APEC can establish reforms very workable during these turbulent times.
I must say PM Aso is going into the fray w/ purpose and w/ backing - his background in business may be paying off now.

Aso-san is correct. Unfortunately, there isn't going to be any positive, meaningful action out of the UNited states until AFTER January 20th.

Getting banks to admit their non-performing loans and debts is a challenge, none of them will admit to them until they absolutely have to. Even the Japanese banks hid their own for years, contributing to Japan's slow recovery.

Well it will all make interesting reading, they have managed to keep the detail under wraps for years. Watch out for low flying yen.
