That amount would barely cover his daily night caps at the fancy hotel bar he frequents.

Thanks to this wonderful gift of 12,000 yen, that will be the mere tax, plus another 3000 yen, on a purchase of a hundred thousand yen in about two years time. Pretty good deal for the government; they give you 12,000 now and you then pay triple the present consumption tax for the rest of your life. Plus the banks get all the transfer payments for the 12,000, which total BILLIONS.

  • amakuri at 10:55 PM JST - 5th February

All this quibble over a pathetic amount of money. What a waste of time and tax payers money. I hope no one is desperately waiting for their next meal. We might hear about them on the news found starved to death in their apartment....hurry up and just hand it out.

It wouldn't pay for one of his socks"

I think it might just pay for a couple pairs of his socks.

"I hope no one is desperately waiting for their next meal"

You're going to be disappointed. There's a whole slew of people desperately wondering how they're going to get their next meal. But at least the homeless guy I gave a hamburger to today won't starve today, anyway.

  • Triumvere at 11:24 PM JST - 5th February

    Why... just... why?

What can they possibly gain from this? 12,000 yen? You can't be serious!?

  • yabits at 06:41 AM JST - 6th February

He may have just misread his earlier statement.
