When the global recession hits down under will the average working Australian actually care about whales?

Somebody ought to poke and probe some of these researchers enough to make them think about what they do to others.

$4million well spent. the other $2million... WT??? give it to greenpeace, they have more chance of stopping whaling!

They don't 'poke and probe' the whales. They shoot them with an exploding harpoon that blows a huge hole in the whale's body. If it's lucky, the hit is near the brain and the whale is killed instantly. Far too often the harpoon misses a vital spot and the whale continues swimming with the harpoon embedded in the hole, until it dies of blood loss or shock. If the hit is in the tail area the whale may be hoisted up by the tail so that it cannot lift its head out of the water, and it drowns.

That's what these 'researchers' , 'it's our tradition' and 'what's wrong with the sustainable use of marine resources' fools need to experience first-hand.

The Australian government doesn't understand that without opening the stomac we cannot guess if a whale eat more krills, plastic bags or cheeseburgers.

More important. More whale meat is needed to research new sauces to accomodate it.
