It seems Bush is working up the courage to crawl out of his burrow. He is apparently banking on the John Q. Public's short memory of events perceived to be significant or noteworthy, which does not extend back beyond the recent death of Michael Jackson.

I wish the headline was 'War criminal Bush caught and sent to Guantanamo Bay to be water boarded' - a little long but sums up my feelings. I really don't know why this man is still outside prison because his criminal behaviour is widely known. I salute the shoe thrower, though. Wish I'd thought of that.

as it's the world series in america & he hasn't thrown out a pitch there i guess he's not very welcome in his own country. japanese in the stadium wouldn't boo him. they're very polite to guests.

Disgraceful deal by the organisers of the Japan Series. Politics should have nothing to do with sport whatsoever, especially when he is not even an active politician anymore. Although, there is a strong argument that the Japan Baseball Series is not actually sport. Clearly a deal struck by that gangster Koizumi. What is Roos playing at by getting involved with the former (and Republican) president ?

The inference here being that no British or American teachers/backpackers would demonstarte aginst this man and his wars? I am British and I am very largely living here in Japan now because of my disgust at the UK's involvement in Iraq.

You are living in Japan because of UK's involvement in a war? Do you really expect us to believe that?

All English teachers. Not just those from Canada.

I think Bush was a horrible president. But going to prison is a little extreme.

Waterboarding - let's pretend you have two choices. 1). Waterboard and get vital information regarding a bombing which a releative of yours will be killed. or 2). do nothing and let it happen. Honestly, do you choose #2 on higher moral standings even though a nut packed a bomb (WITH NAILS) and blows up a restaurant.

I am not for torture but it is a thin fence here. These are not normal people we are dealing with.

The umpires getting ready to catch him in case he falls backward from bending so far to throw worse than a 'girlie-throw'. Man, the guy can't even pitch a ball!

Not surprising he's not allowed to pitch at the opener of a game in his home country -- he'd be booed off the kiddie mound they set up for him.

Why is this under Politics? Bush is a former president on a private visit. He's not meeting with Hatoyama or other politicians as far as I know. It should be under Sports.

It's in politics because it is politics. The head of Yomiuri, Tsuneo Watanabe, has been a big cheese in the LDP for a long time.

Just another reason to cheer for the Fighters.
