I'm really having a bad day, can't read these articles right. The young generation should should pay for their grandparents generation. Aren't we undermining the intelligence of the younger generation here. I think they are well aware that its those politicians from their grandparents and parents era that has gotten Japan and a lot more countries into this mess. Todays politicians should be held accountable for every tax yen, dollar, pound, etc. Me, I'm of european heritage, and just look at the mess they have created there. If countries were businesses they'd be all bankrupt by now.

The government has "no time to spare" in raising taxes, but no interest in cutting wasteful spending. Noda's assertion that the younger generation should support the older generation out of a sense of gratitude is arrogant BS. The older generation worked for the promise of a better life, and they got it. The current younger generation is working for the promise of paying off the government's debts, brought on by corruption, greed, and incompetence.

Inevitable really.
All the expenses the government has to pay for.
Sending the US marines to Guam.
Buying new fighter planes to keep up with the Jones'
Paying bonuses to government workers.
It all costs money.
Sales tax should be 50 or even 60 percent.
I would gladly mortgage all my property to help pay for the wonderful service the Honshu government provides.
Hell, why stop at 60 percent.
Let's go to 70!

They should also state how they plan to reduce unnecessary government spending. Two years in Japanese politics is a long time.

what they afil to realise is when the burden becomes too great for the younger generation to bear, the smart ones will just pack up and go and work in a country with lower taxes better lifestyles. this will only speed up as more production is shifted overseas, all that will be left are the elderly and unemployed, then your really up crap creek without a paddle. To To the younger generation, get your degree learn English fluently then you have the option of jumping ship when the financial torpedo strikes.

They are banking on the Japan of the past where people remain loyal, no matter what the hardship. A lot of Japanese with foreign partners refused to leave when Japan seemed doomed last year, so it still prevails. The thing is, the world is a lot bigger now, and this 'internationalization' thing that Japan has been touting for so long will become more of a reality, especiall amongst the young, who realisze that there really is more to life than just Japan, and yes, they will leave and seek fortune elsewhere. I see no great future for Japan.

I dislike sales tax because it's an unfair tax which everyone must pay regardless of the level of income and wealth. The poor, underpaid and people living below the poverty line will have to pay a 3% increase and then another 2% increase which will reduce their already strained budgets by 5%.
Taxes should be paid by those who can afford them.

I don't understand, I keep hearing that the Americans are unwanted guests and have to get evicted from Okinawa as soon as possible. They have to go SOMEWHERE, right?
Yeah, Japan can do with fighters purchased over 20 years ago with designs dating from 30 years ago. It's not like China's building fifth generation planes called the J-20 and spending over $100 billion a year on "defence".
Oh, wait a minute...........
You don't believe in paying bonuses to workers? Seriously?
