China criticizes U.S. missile defense radar in Japan

What a surprise!

10 ( +11 / -1 )

China shamelessly criticizes the radar till they would be able to copy them from illegal means. Let's speak Chinese " internal matter and defensive in nature".

Defense damaging stability? Outrageously illogical.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

In theory defense could hurt stability if the defense allows the one side to unilaterally attack (this is what MAD was about) . However its safe to say china could survive an initial strike and what the japanese are doing is indeed mostly defensive.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

No need to worry about it if you don't intend to put to the test China.

The United States is damaging stability in the Asia-Pacific region by positioning a missile defense radar in Japan, China said on Thursday.

Hypocrite phrase of the year, considering how much China is damaging stability in the Asia-Pacific region through unilateral annexation of sea territory and bullying Japan by intruding their territory by sea and air, just to name a few.

The United States is damaging stability in the Asia-Pacific region by positioning a missile defense radar in Japan, China said on Thursday.

Translation: "We want to launch missile strikes on Japan in retribution for WWII and for them stopping us stealing their islands, but this missile defence radar makes that difficult."

“Neighboring countries pushing forward the deployment of anti-missile systems in the Asia-Pacific and seeking unilateral security is not beneficial to strategic stability and mutual trust in the region,”

Translation: "Our neighbours have seen through our limp lies to the truth of our plans for the conquest of Asia and the Pacific, and are now stepping up defences. We oppose this, since it makes our dream more difficult to realise."

“It is not beneficial to peace and stability in Northeast Asia.”

Translation: "It's not beneficial to peace and stability in Northeast Asia that we plan to bring about with an iron fist and by revoking all Human Rights known to man once we have conquered the region."

U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has said two Navy destroyers equipped with missile defense systems would be deployed to Japan by 2017 in response to provocations from North Korea.

Translation: "Saying that it's in response to North Korea's beligerence is a lot easier than being honest and saying it's because of China's beligerence. It's a shame North Korea aren't being more provocative, or else we'd be able to justify sending more than just a pair of ships to help out our Japanese allies, and we'd be able to make the deployment in a couple weeks instead of a couple years."

I should start charging for my translation services.

Why is China worried about this? Does this missile defense system somehow interfere with China's plans?

10 ( +10 / -0 )

China can take a long walk off a short pier. They should be worrying about Hong Kong instead of strictly defensive equipment in another country,

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Chinese govt looking stupid & ignorant once again, isn't that a surprise NOT!

I feel sorry for Chinese people, they deserve BETTER govt & more freedoms! Just imagine how exciting that would make China instead of the current one run by a bunch old fart commies!

6 ( +7 / -1 )

BRAVO Fox Sora Winters!!!!!! Love it. Dead on correct. I started to make the same thing and then saw yours there. Exactly what I wanted to say.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Of course china would say this , it is terribly inconvenient and inconsiderate of japan doing this.

Mean while japan prepares its defences against aggressive antagonistic nations NK and china.

Defences are that, defences, they are not for attack, this system is to counter NK and China not to attack them with.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

“It is not beneficial to peace and stability in Northeast Asia.”

China is one to talk, no one recalls Japan or other Asian neighbors making any aggression moves. So far China has been alone and other countries are merely beefing up their defenses, that's normal. China needs to learn from Japan about non-aggression and live peacefully as Japan has done since after WWII and continues its non-aggression stance.

Seirei Tobimatsu Defense damaging stability? Outrageously illogical

This radar is a part of ABM system And ABM is a part strategic nuclear forces

So it can be regarded as preparation to attack upon China...

Or Russia - Russia also has strategic missile forces in Syberia NOT SO FAR from Japan

Anyway it will be response - some Chinese/Russian missiles aimed at this radar

with nuclear warhead of cause

Pure logic

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

//China shamelessly criticizes the radar till they would be able to copy them from illegal means.

Ahem, gunpowder, spaghetti, paper, the seismograph etc....they must be living it up on in Beijing with all those royalties payments...

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Dear China.

If you didn't act in such an aggressive way towards your neighbours which is affecting peace in stability in the region. If you could also keep your little pet North Korea under control. Then Perhaps Uncle Sam wouldn't need to place a missle defence radar system in Japan.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

StormR Of course china would say this , it is terribly inconvenient and inconsiderate of japan doing this. Mean while japan prepares its defences against aggressive antagonistic nations NK and china.

Surprise - It does not help Japan against China or N Korea

These countries are TOO close to Japan

It can help US and only US to stop intercontinental missiles

which should pass a long way from North East Asia to North America

Forget about Japan

It's only a first line of US (and not a Japanese defence)

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

olegek and in protecting and defending the US that is in turn protecting and defending Japan.

Re: Storm R "protecting and defending the US that is in turn protecting and defending Japan Forget about Japan It's only a first line of US (and not a Japanese defence"

Stop enticing the blogs by making these posts a US vs China issue when this article is clearly about China taking yet again another jab at Japan. China should act responsibly but rather has many aggressions against all its neighbors, please tell us when has Japan done such a thing after WWII? Japan continues to move forward peacefully and lay to rest pre WWII. Today is 2014 Japan knows full well about war and what it leads to. China keeps enticing the situation but will end up failing in the end. the term to the victory goals this spoils only works well in books not reality.

I would like the US to side with China instead of Japan. I've worked with both Chinese in America and Japanese in Tokyo. I disliked working with Japanese but I I have a lot of respect for my Chinese colleagues. I have never worked with Japanese in America but I dreaded working with Japanese in Tokyo. Even though the Chinese government is communist, this same communist government has not allowed an epidemic of violence, epidemic of drugs and failing education system to collapse like it has in the US. In addition, the standard of living in China has dramatically improved over the last 30 years, minus the pollution issues. Plus, corrupt government officials in China are executed, not re-elected like the US. Granted, the Chinese government has series issues, but it's time to reassess China. Freedom of expression looses it value when your country is slowly imploding day by day. Plus, let's side with a winner, not a loser! China neither distorts its history, nor are foreigners treated as second class citizens. Government is made up of powerful people and my 5 experience in Tokyo makes me ashamed that the US government values a sexist, xenophobic, male dominated society as its strongest ally.

'China neither distorts its history, nor are foreigners treated as second class citizens'

I can only conclude you've never been to China. I've defended China from idiotic and ignorant comments on this site from people who've never set foot in the country ( there are plenty above ) and if they did would search assiduously for every possible reinforcement of their prejudices. That said, try finding material relating to or even mentioning Mao's butchery in China. As for racism, China could teach a masterclass. African workers in China were subjected to shocking racist abuse in China. There is also a widespread pseudo-scientific belief that the Han 'race' miraculously appeared in China and didn't migrate from Africa. As I said, I'll defend Chinese people ( not its corrupt and hypocritical government ) from the idiocy and bigotry you'll find on this site, but I honestly can't make sense of your comment.

China criticizes U.S. missile defense radar in Japan

Yeah US vs PRC

this " missile defense radar" protect USA and NOT a Japan

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

China is the reason Japan needs to do this.

What hypocrites they are. Don't you dare increase your military capabilities while we are increasing ours! D'oh.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Lmao, popster. Your so-called "collapse" of the US is only the result of letting people lead their lives rather than killing them for wanting a government that doesn't only benefit the party.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

"Government is made up of powerful people and my 5 experience in Tokyo makes me ashamed that the US government values a sexist, xenophobic, male dominated society as its strongest ally."

The Art of War says to make yourself seem far when you are near, to criticize something when it's in your favor.

Japan is more than capable of setting up their own radar system. It's a double edge sword! Why must America do it on Japan's soil?

The answer: The US radar is also there to make sure Japan does not send any missiles abroad.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

“It is not beneficial to peace and stability in Northeast Asia.”

What a coincidence. I feel China has not been particularly beneficial to peace and stability in Northeast Asia of late.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Yawn.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

To China: If you stop buying (Inter-Continental Ballistic) Missiles then Japan will not have to procure anymore Missile Defense System...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Popster:

corrupt government officials in China are executed

The top "communists" in China are multi-millionaires, billionaires in some cases. That's mostly a result of corruption, but they aren't being executed. Ask any Chinese person and they will tell you that the "communists" are corrupt to the core.

China neither distorts its history, nor are foreigners treated as second class citizens

I invite you to start a discussion of the Tiananmen Square massacre, or maybe the antics of Mass Murderer Mao, the next time you are in China. Then you will see who distorts history and who doesn't.

By the way, more than a few businesses in China charge higher prices to foreigners. They aren't treating you as a second class citizen, but they are happy to rip you off.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

//China neither distorts its history,..

Would that happen to be the same Chinese government that managed to exterminate, via the 打麻雀运动 (Four Pests campaign) more Chinese people than IJA? Some estimates go up to 45,000,000 Chinese dead, one way or another..

Very interesting article on wikipedia. Doesn't seem to mention any apology.

Presumably this is why people would prefer a radar system, China not having a great record.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Pure comedy.

The site becomes a valuable target for China DF-16 or DF-21C.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

@Ting Zhao Take your best shot, China. The world is sick of your cowardly bullying.

Allowing the radar in Japan is one of those prices Japan must pay in order to receive American's "protection". That early warning radar against long range missiles is for American home based or Pacific based interceptors. It does not protect Japan in anyway. They are protecting the US and its Pacific assets. If the US and China ever goes to war, you can be certain that these radars will be the first to come under attack, along with American forward bases, those located in Japan. American "protection" simply means that you'll be the first to be scarified in case of war. We see hints of that in Georgia and Ukraine already.
