The USA and Japan will not recognize China's Joint Military Command, and as such, they will fly B-52 and Jet Fighters over wherever this Command might be! Take that China!

great news. This will reduce the risk of a regional commander starting a war.

Remember you killed them, raped them, looted them, by the millions. Do you think they'll forget that? Would you >forget that if you were in their place?

Those countries aren't mentally and psychologically backwards enough to let a dictatorship brainwash them into being "angry" over 70 year old history. And they all support Japan, a democracy over China which they consider the greatest threat to peace in Asia.

@Akula- have you been following the news? Live in the real world! The US, Russia, India conduct military exercises with China regularly now and the US now buys aircraft parts from China! Chinese naval ships call on Singapore regularly for maintenance. They also visit Hawaii, Russia and other parts of Asia. Taiwan and China are even closer than Taiwan/Japan. Vietnam just criticized Abe's visit to Yasukuni last week. Go to the Philippines now and ask the common man in the street what they think of Japan and the 2 WW. War memorials in Asia are now given greater emphasis with millions spent to enlarge/beautify the premises! Only Japan needs to wake up to China.

The defense ministry said its military modernisation was not aimed at any country, the China Daily said.

Modernization? No it's called common sense in a developed world. With these uncoordinated units, how in the world were they going to manage their ADIZ?

Circa 1920's China. Bunch of warlords going berserk which eventually was the prime reason China kept losing to Japan dozen times over despite unlimited manpower.

The system, which has been popular in the West for decades, is not (aimed at) starting a war, but to kill it in the cradle

This is a good thing. Abe will have to make sure he's got enough firepower before trying anything. Unless, Abe's plan is to sacrifice a jet, ship or two so he can play the martyr -- a likely scenario.

“An increasingly efficient military will not necessarily be a more aggressive one,” he was quoted as saying. “China has made its peaceful stand clear, but it is time to improve its combat ability.”

Xi is attempting to streamline his nations command and control by purging out old ways that have been in place since Mao put them there. He is also purging out old men who are and were Tigers and Flies.

If he isn't careful the next purge might be his own. When you poke a stick at Tigers and flies the tiger's might bite back and the flies will eat what is leftover.

  • 2

It seems that Xi and Abe have something in common – both pay great interests in advocating the nationalism to their domestic constituents with an aim to strengthen their political powers.

If the arm race between Japan and China continues and accelerates in such magnitude and speed, both will damage the best interests of each nation, let alone to threaten peace in the region and ignite unwanted wars.

The economy of the US is on its way to claw back to normal growth after going through Great Recession. For example , the Gross domestic product of the US grew at a 4.1 percent annual rate in 2013. Therefore, the last thing on Obama’s mind would be participate in a war that deems to hamper American’s economy.

But a more unified structure could reduce the possibility of a local commander taking unauthorised action in a crisis situation.

In other words, if a local commander suddenly finds his marbles and tries to stop China instigating a war against Japan, there's sweet FA he can do about it. Not that he could before anyway, without being executed for Treason (and probably Class A war crimes as well). Meanwhile, I'm trying to decide what to have for lunch tomorrow. Keep barking China, you'll get put down soon enough.

Despite the economic power of China, even two decades from now, the U.S. is the only country able to pull together coalitions and mobilize efforts to deal with global challenges. China isn't going to replace the U.S. on a global level. China recognizes that it cannot play that role of organizing across regions and across state boundaries.

...Then, there are Chinese who want we believe that China is looking for peace. lol

New Year has just begun and China want to do things that are opposite to Lennon's philosophy.

Meanwhile, Japan is just looking for domestic improvements that maybe for some is stupid, but it is important because we need to improve economy and other areas as well.

Japan doesn't really care about China and her nonsense demands, except for Japan herself. As I said before, there are no such anti-Chinese education in Japan. Chinese citizen enjoy freedom and benefits in Japan, yet there are some Chinese lunatics who still complain about Japan. How can we understand those guys? If they hate Japan, why don't they go back to China?

China's armed forces plan to set up a joint operational command system to “enhance efficiency” in crisis response, state media reported Friday. ..................................................

.China is a huge country, So this movement is from necessity. It must be ready in case Japan militarise. However, sooner or later, both countries have to be peaceful, After all, people in both countries have light brown skin, same kind of facial feature, same color hair, Not blond hair of pale skin, similar body feature, Culture of Japan has pkenty influence of China, Japan even use kanji. Both countries hold huge amount of US bonds. Both countries are not interested in USA bossing them, right now, they are bickering but that is about it. I wonder LDP plan of article 9 revision is to get rid of USA Military men in Japan so that Japan save money paying to USA and utilize base are for development of Japanese business facilities.

Does anyone really believe that? Has anyone even expressed that? It seems pretty clear China does not have peaceful ambitions.

However, sooner or later, both countries have to be peaceful, After all, people in both countries have light brown skin, same kind of facial feature, same color hair, Not blond hair of pale skin, similar body feature,

If race were enough to keep them peaceful, then the two countries' entire history wouldn't be tied up in war. They have pretty much never been peaceful with each other. Race is pretty much irrelevant between the countries, it's culture that matters between them, and their cultures clash.

    SenseNotSoCommon

This has more to do with centralizing political power than anything else, as Beijing tightens its grip on the regions and their leadership.

Having armed forces with less of a regional identity will prevent recurrences of Tiananmen, where army units had to be called in from outside the capital to crush dissent.

China always justifies its own actions and pointing finger to other. One sided of rhetoric that works for Chinese is a laughable matter for the rest of the world. Equipped with nuclear weapon and military build up, China is making noises as usual. Japan must not change its constitution. If it is changed, it will interfere with China's plan to return the "disputed" islands to the homeland. The military buildup in China is only for defense. Trust is vital in this situation.

  • 3

    Strangerland

The military buildup in China is only for defense.

There is nothing that points to this being the truth. On the contrary, their aggressive actions, not just against Japan, but also the Philippines, show that they are looking to become aggressive, not defensive. No one has been aggressive against China, but they have been aggressive against others.

Trust is vital in this situation.

How can you trust China? They are aggressive and building up their military. They have shown they have no problem with taking over other territories, then ruling them with an iron fist (think Tibet and the Xinjiang). China is not trustworthy.

Right now is all ok, the Chinese say or do this, Japan say or do that, the US stay behind the scene as much as it can because is still weighting their interest (say foreign policy and protocol...). Cool!! But cool for how long? Now, let see what happen when Mr. Abe decide to exploit any of the resources for which the Senkakus are of interest. I can't wait for Japan to star using the resources (oil, mine, gas...) for which the Senkaku's sovereignty is of value to Japan. Hopefully the sooner the better!! Every day Japan wait, China grow stronger. Even when China is still militarily inferior to Japan or JP/USA... their economical and political influence in third party countries is the real danger for a Japan facing a conflict in which the economical effects are the real Japanese weak point. What's China going to do? Go to the Senkakus to expels the Japanese companies settling there? Push the civilian workers out? Challenge the Japanese Navy backed up by the US Navy? It may become another shameful Chinese episode (similar to the Malvinas/Falklands for Argentina) or the beginning of something really ugly...

The US has been building/upkeeping bases since the end of WW2, how can you justify China's invasion of neighboring nations/territories by claiming it is the US's fault? That is just silly......

It's like blaming the for sun rising in the morning!

Come on at least admit that the PRC has started a new arms race.

Before 1999 the PRC's military budget was less than 20 Billion dollars a year, yes less than $20,000,000,000. But they have increased their build up to $166,000,000,000.00 as of 2013.....

So, who exactly is to blame for the last build up? The US who hasn't changed or China who has become more belligerent?

Your logic is as insanely-childish as that of the "we are the victim" logic of the PRC!

Now, please try and justify the PRC cyber warfare attacks, you know the ones that have been stealing whatever tech they can since before 1990!

But you can't, you will try and spin this into another, "We are a victim" propaganda bunk.

Same bs as you have always spun.

All of the atrocities that you mention nobody doubt those things happening do you ever read american or vietnamese or other nationalities crying about what happened zillions of years ago. The Japanese government has apologized a zillion times and a zillion years ago so don't try to EVEN spread your hatred here because for one I won't be a follower of your communist brain washing and thinking. If China wants a war let them start it BUT I can bet they won't finish it.

If a real war between China and Japan breaks out, the only way it could have happened is if China attacked Japan invoking Article 5 of the US-Japan Mutual Defense Treaty. In other words, China will have started a war with the United States. China never attack Singapore and not 1 ant was killed. In the last century, only Germany and Japan carried out so much pain and atrocities in so large numbers in other countries. As a Singaporean, I am no issue to settle with China. But I lost my grandfather who brutally slaughtered by the Japanese in 2WW and they turned our little island to Syonanto! Love the attempt at sarcasm, but it just doesn't work for you. So Singapore was Chinese controlled during WW2? So, all the history books were all wrong when they clearly stated that Singapore was a British holding until 1963.

So how could the CPC have ever of fought there?

You may wish to read a bit of real history rather than what is force fed to you. The CPC nor the KMT fought in Singapore so how could they of committed anything?

Now, as to your claiming that China never committed acts of terror or atrocities during WW2 nor afterwards well there you are mistaken and truly misinformed.

Now, I will ask you again, since the end of WW2 how many crimes against humanity has Japan committed?

Now try and answer this , how many crimes against humanity and war crimes has China and the Korea's committed?

Many today posters were not even born back in late 1960s and 70s. That territory dispute existed for many decades. Why has it become suddenly hot topic? Back then no Internet, no media exposure, no nationalistic and hawkish J politicians. PRC has waited HK for 100 yrs unlike Argentina invaded Falkland with Force.

Beating war drum and tuning marching song will not solve the problem of pro long recession of Japanese ailing economy and PRC structural problem. Demographically Japan is aging nation with low birth rate. It is not the right moment for natural disaster prone nation is revisiting the fond memory of pure and clean warrior clans. Polluted and traffic jammed PRC should tone down the combative language too.

Go to the Senkakus to expels the Japanese companies settling there?

Senkaku is the small rocky Island. In fact, Japanese Inc have never made large scale investment and mining exploration since 1972. The main reason is the reliability of profitability. It is not about Geo-political struggle. Japanese companies are not Wall street bankers who have burnt the money!
