China protests Aso's remarks on disputed isles

BEIJING —

China on Thursday expressed ‘‘strong dissatisfaction’’ over comments by Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso that Japan and the United States will work together to deal with any attack by a third country on disputed isles in the East China Sea. The islet chain, known in Japan as Senkaku and in China as Diaoyu, is claimed by China, Japan and Taiwan.

‘‘China expresses strong dissatisfaction, and has made a serious representation to Japan,’’ Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said in a statement posted on the ministry’s website. The islets ‘‘are China’s territory, and China holds indisputable sovereignty’’ over them, Ma said. Ma was responding to Aso’s remarks in parliament earlier in the day, in which he said the islets are Japan’s territory and thus subject to the security alliance between Japan and the United States.

Ho-hum. China needs to chill. China has more territorial disputes with her neighbor than any country in Asia.

Just a press release not worth discussing.

Agree with some14, and several times JP's Big brother has hinted that he doesn't want to take side in this sort of issue.
