lol, pot meet kettle. China should worry about cutting their own emissions to meet Japans standard. Oh wait, no they can't do that. That would involved destroying their economy like Japan is trying to do. They're too smart for that.

Molenir: It's not even really pot meet kettle, it's massive cauldron meet tea-spoon. Everyone's got a LOT of work to do, and I agree that what Japan is proposing is not enough (and no pats on the back are warranted), but China has no right to be saying such things in light of the fact that they are the biggest polluter.

China has no say in the matter

I said China should cuts off talks with Japan over CO2 emission discussions. It was a political manipulations of Japanese diplomacy over blaming others and promoting her own images! Japan has no sincere mentality to discuss world enviroment, they are just making ridiculous demands for others to follow, but they wont do!

It says wealthy nations, as history’s biggest polluters, should cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40% from 1990 levels by 2020.

Indeed and that was America's faults!

just tell china when you can agree to binding caps, we will too in the meantime, we'll do our best.

i love the nerve of china to accuse Japan of not doing enough while they themselves do nothing at all. another example of how marxism turns the brain to mush. not much different then the way the left thinks all around the world. only thing to be surprised about is the left being surprised.

Japan's 15% is bigger than the other industrialized nations. (I think the US is 14%, but I'm not sure.) China is the last country that should be complaining. I say let's throw the numbers out the window and actually start doing something to decrease gas emissions. Oh wait, I guess we'll have to form a committee to decide that too....

Why don't we just tell them to shut up.

Those crazy Chinese. Do they realize how retarded they look by saying this about Japan?

My guess is no. No they don't.

"Its an internal matter china." (sarcasm) lets see what china does being a far worse poluter and less efficient, before we take too seriously.

China's per capita emissions are still a long way behind Japan's, and a quarter of the US's. With the standard of living still relatively low they have the trade-off right now between poverty and increasing emissions, a problem Japan doesn't have. Their population's also a decade or two away from levelling whereas Japan's is in decline. Qin's quite right in what he says - Japan should be more than capable of bringing the emissions down more than 15% over a decade, while arguably improving the economy and standard of living through research in green technology.

It's also untrue that China isn't doing anything about emissions. They're investing a lot in green technology. A large part of the stimulus bill went toward this.

I would argue that China along with other emerging economies should put a cap on per capita emission growth, using historic emission growth in developed countries as a reference, but there's no way they'd realistically be able to bring about reductions in a decade. More urgent for them is to regulate other forms of pollution - dumping in rivers etc. which is a serious problem right now.

I guess China isn't content with having stolen almost all of the developed world's manufacturing jobs they want it all. Global warming is at the bottom of my list anyway but if we are going to do it then everyone has to play by the same rules. China seems to say they'll go along with cuts as long as it doesn't hurt their economy. They also seem to be all for hurting other country's as it will benefit them.

Using per capita emissions will always favor China as they have 1 billion people. Essentially if they can equal the US per capita emissions they should succeed in destroying the planet. No free pass for over population.

Molenir beat me to my line!

They've got to make targets achievable so I say start off small and get that then set a new target.

China's per capita emissions are still a long way behind Japan's, and a quarter of the US's.

As usaexpat says - not a great argument this one. But having said that I saw more solar panels in 4 days in Dalian than I've seen over 8 years in Japan

I may be wrong, but I seem to remember a well known American president said the same thing - not about China, though.
